  2. Police cannot randomly stop you simply to ask where you going, furthermore, if they did, there are so many options that you can pick from as to why you are out that fall into the essential list. Exercising IS classified as essential.....hence why people are stating while riding, "out exercising"..... which is great. Do something within the list of a acceptable options, that increases the possible risk of furthering the spread, and I would imagine you will see a fine. Empowering so many people though to make these decisions regarding the fines, to me is going to be a disaster. Bylaw officers do not have the same training as a police officer when it comes to exercising common sense as to the letter of the law, which will result in an even more overloaded court system. At the end if the day, we are big boys and girls, you need to do what you are comfortable with for your family & you given how you interpret what has been made known or put in place at this time.....do not look for people on forums, Facebook to spell that out for you. Unfortunately people will still make poor decisions, but that is the society we live in where you are allowed to make these whether you agree or not, if you do not like it, there are countries that take those rights away from you, perhaps consider living there. If you are really looking for something to be upset about, maybe consider what just happened with the PC MPP being kicked out for representing the thoughts & opinions of the people he represents or others within the province. Whether you agree with the lock down or not, when an MPP takes the concerns or voices of the people that elected him to do so, to his party and that same government does not agree with that resulting in being removed, that is a huge problem with me and not the way the system is supposed to work. I already asked my MPP if she was in fear of speaking her mind or the minds of the people that elected her in fear of what jus happened to this MPP......will I get a reply, not likely.....

  3. Yep, would have been a lot cheaper to buy a new sled closer to home but there none around here any more.

  4. Out exercising this afternoon for 34 klicks. Lots of other folks doing the same. Met up w/ 1 of the board members from the local exercise club out with his son. Saw some moose scoops along the exercise trail:

  5. We did about 250 km today between Barrie Midland Penetang and up to Thunder Beach. Rode railline and many sidetrails, all yellow. Alot of snirt in the south and a bit better north of Midland. Bush terrible and field OK. Got very loose in the afternoon and it will probably be all ice tomorrow if there is no snow tonite. Obviously, the area needs more snow and cold. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are OK with 'marginal conditions'. Regardless, I'm glad I got out.

  6. I have been running the roads since this began. When some people in the northern towns start demanding their mayor refuse outsiders in town, I feel like running to the local dump and depositing their essential products there.

  8. Congratulations. Great limited piece of machinery, and you have chosen a good place to display it. And now back to our regular programming....

  9. No royalty or old money in the Schliefenbaum family, Peters dad was a mining engineer that bought a bunch at the time logged out scrub land no one wanted for a mere $7 an acre. Peter is a self made hard working well educated millionaire. "In the first half of the 20th century, Canadian lumber companies so thoroughly logged Haliburton Forest that by the 1960s it had almost no value. In 1962 Adolf Schleifenbaum, a German mining engineer, bought the forest for $7 an acre. Nine years later, he crashed his plane in Germany and died. His son Peter was nine" https://financialpost.com/news/haliburton-forests-peter-schleifenbaum-is-a-modern-lumber-baron-but-hardly-typical

  10. Because he has made up most of his "facts" - his assertions were deemed b.s. soon after his "information" was released. Now, if the PC's will just get rid of that whack job from around St. Catharines - Niagara Falls way, that should clear the deck for them. The guy out Haldimand riding way is gone already.

  12. Its a gift card so to my knowledge there is no fee. Its a gift card with a number attached to it that enables you to get a permit. Should be able to send it to any address tied to any vin.

  13. Thank you for sharing this information Yamatario. A one way trip to Hearst from the GTA is approximately 900km. (9x17.4=156L) Today’s price of diesel is about $1.05 X 156L = $163 one way or $326 round trip. As you mentioned weather conditions, road conditions, or 2 apex’s in the trailer may increase this amount to over $400.

  14. Pretty sure that is in fact what Is happening. Was out w club brushing trails after Christmas and said not grooming trails that connect to next health unit. Some trails are better than none...going to be a messed up year.

  15. My understanding is that the trails are closed. B106E is signed as closed at the 177 intersection north of LSP.

  18. Exactly! What Stoney says reminds me of the crisis during the gas price jump back in '07/'08. "We have to sell our Suburban because it's costing us an extra 40 bucks to go to the cottage!" I said it back then & I'll say it here again, if your finances are that tight & the cost of a permit is a make or break deal, maybe it's time to get rid of the sleds & take up curling? A lot of us have said once you past the cost of the permit on our odometer, the riding is free.

  19. Easy, in theory, to understand. You are delivering "essential" cargo across the country while in your tractor, but at home you are just another tax paying stiff who doesn't need to be out potentially spreading the virus. I know in practice, this explanation can get a little weak. A welder sled friend of mine works on a downtown condo construction sight that has had a Covid 19 outbreak, but it is still "essential" that everyone come to work, even though they can't give condos away right now. I don't think that Ford is stupid, incompetent or mean, but I think he might be in over his head and the position of Premier requires super delicate compromise. I don't envy him, nor do I support all of the decisions he makes re: Covid, but rather him than Del Duca or Horvath.

  20. So, I just returned from out west yesterday, now on my way to Edmonton and back on Tuesday, then out to winnipeg and then home for two weeks. Tell me, why is it safe for me to travel all over our country but when I get home I become a diseased pariah not welcome anywhere and not allowed to spend my vacation time sledding. I guess my tractor is magical and can block the virus but my sleds spread it.

  21. I work with COVID patients daily now .. and your age bracket is on point. 50 + years of age .. as you get into the 70 yr bracket plus your chance of survival decreases rapidly. The youngest ive dealt with is 19 yr old but had medical issues prior to contracting.

  22. Thanks for contacting your PHU. If I accept their response, I guess it would follow that the thousands of us in the GTHA who have bought permits are $hit out of luck, since there are no OFSC trails anywhere near our PHU. I tend to disagree with that interpretation, and side with my libertarian leaning friends who guarantee right of passage for me, my truck, trailer and sled to the open trail of my choice. I won't go first though.
