  1. Bancroft and north on the railbed today. Last two pics taken on MLSS 177. B106E has a Trail Closed sign at this intersection. 103 klicks for the day. Heads up for B106E riders north of Maynooth. Caught up to and passed a horseback rider just south of the Combermere turnoff (E109). Not sure if this going to be a regular occurrence or not.

  3. My uncle passed away 2 nights ago due to pneumonia but negative for covid. He was not counted in the death toll. No clue why so many people think this is happening. Believing everything they read on Facebook I guess.

  4. I think we all can agree we need new riders, young and old. Whether or not they want to ride trails or boondockin in the bush is fine with me as long as everyone does their part by respecting the sport and landowners. Want to ride trails? Wait until they’re open and stay between the stakes. Want to ride in the bush? Go for it! Go in areas where it’s permitted, and if you need to take the trails to get there, buy a pass.

  5. Come on. You parked on someones private lot and complain when they wanted you to pay? It's 5 dollars! They own the property but I guess you fell entitled to use it. Sad IMO.

  6. Drove up to the cottage ( Port Severn - Six Mile Lake). Seguin Trail was open, went a bit further north towards Parry Sound. Freshly groomed, worth the drive. Really only a break - in , sled tuning trip. Enjoying the Artic Cat 800. It felt great to get out. Two sled family - out with son today. As for trail itself - limited. You can open it up 90 percent of the time, slow down for ice, occasional snirt. They're working ( brilliantly ) with what they have. Parked at the Public parking south of Petro station. Basically cross bridge over hwy 400 between Petro and the cell tower, right turn ( West ) over Hwy 400, look for the green P parking sign. Lot is plowed.

  7. https://shorelinetoday.ca/2021/01/12/app-credited-with-helping-find-two-lost-hikers-in-bruce-peninsula/ Read this today and decided to look into this app. I already carry an inReach for SOS, and I'm aware that the OFSC app will show locations as well as Googlemaps, etc. But I thought this is a great app for someone that doesn't understand LAT/LON, or don't know where they are. I'm not connected to the developers and I'm not promoting it. I've downloaded it and have suggested family members do the same as it appears to be very simple to use. It assigns 3 words to 3 meter squares around the world, the 3 words is actually the LAT/LON. brian

  12. We all know the out come when tracks are showing up on closed trails...happens every yr BUT now landowner's are taking action. We all have read/heard the actions that have been going on province wide and this is not new business, the Mags and OFSC has been have been educating us the last few yrs BUT nothing is sinking in...WHY. Snowmobile tracks on closed trails ====closed trail. Atv...PU/SUV on trail====closed trail. No Respect for crops etc ======closed trail. IF this keeps happening NO ONE to blame but our self's. What can we do.....open for opinions...…..IMO permit needs to up and this may cover some of the costs involved......minimum $1000 fine. Leaving this pinned for a while.....open for opinions please don't turn it into BS. Thanks.

  19. My dad passed away 2 years ago. If that had been today, he would definitely be counted as a Covid related death. His body, and his lungs were done. He was 83. He had trouble breathing his last night alive. I don't believe all the deaths are Covid caused. There is a big difference between caused and related

  20. In this state of emergency, there is a stay at home order for the exception of going to an essential job, grocery store, pharmacy etc... Tough to prove that you are doing any of that in New Liskeard with a 24ft sled trailer on the back when you live in Waterloo. You will be in contravention of the Order.

  26. NP, don't get me wrong the conditions will have deteriorated on both areas equally by now. The Paudash stuff was just better/less travelled when we rode, I doubt there is any truly good riding until we get another hit of snow, we don't need much to get going again. Livin' Don't know how to fix that!! Quote is after my answer!

  28. The E was really good Friday and almost as good Saturday, we didn't do any side trails except we poked in on the trail # 608? on Saturday and they hadn't been through. Talked with the club President and he told us they had all groomers out on both days. Way less traffic than our home trails, heard you could get up to Lake St Peter. I'll leave it at that!! Livin'

  29. Those are the rules in Quebec right now but I havent heard anyone having an issue in Ontario right now. I actually have a room booked in Cochrane this weekend but its just my dad and I so I cant see us having any issues. We live about 2 blocks from eachother and should be considered the same household.

  35. Upping the fines will certainly prevent re-offenders but I cringe at the thought of the newb idiot who simply doesn't know open from closed and other assorted relatively innocent ignorant types as mentioned in post 2 there. The times I have seen things like this happen was usually late at night and usually by types who were going to ride free or die trying if you catch my drift. I worry about that a bit too. Makes me think of a few fellas I rode with years ago, one of em offed himself in the end he didnt care about nuthin and it wasn't just sleds he thrashed around. I suppose this is the main concern is the old saying about a few bad apples which makes me wonder how to improve PR in the face of these unfortunate events? Theres got to be some way of communicating a message to the landowners as well as somehow communicating to the wing nuts who are doing this. Heck its a dang tricky situation and so hard on the clubs man I feel for you guys who have to re route trails and sometimes close em. Sad and avoidable.

  36. This is a hard solve that has many factors. I dont really think its worse than earlier I think its less patience from land owners, and WAYYYY more exposure for each instance than before. For instance, a boon docking idiot could rip through a whole farm field ten years back and that farmer, area, and club are all aware but land owners 200km away didnt hear about it and because they had some years without issues? All good. Now a land owner posts up and EVERY land owner sees, relates to "that time when" and the anger boils across all land owners equally so the patience we used to get is GONE and gone for good. This exposure PR problem is the biggest issue with sledding, and ALL enjoyable motorized performance sports imo. The all watching eye of internet posting trolls is a huge wall of trouble and getting worse. As for the idiots doing these events? I agree its mostly a "dont give a rats about it" problem as well as a "bad boy look at me hold my beer" problem. Not new, just worse because 18 today? Behave more like 13 in my day. So it goes. Wish I had more to offer I really dont have much other than talk to these young fools and try and get some sense into em. It takes a village to raise a child and anger towards them? Will only make it worse imo. People seem to enjoy anger, blame and finger pointing more though. That said when I say talk? I aint talking fizzy bunnies and fluffly clouds either, just suggesting no baseball bats.

  37. A little of this would go a long way. I was really surprised at the attention I got when I took matters into my own hands recently. It quickly escalated from a polite response to a 911 call, to 3 cars, and a follow up by the staff sergeant. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
    1 point
  38. By the same token, there are those that go beyond what is lawful and take matters into their own hands keeping people off trails/private property. There has been a FB Group post/thread with video of a land owner who has inserted t-bars and wire to keep people out. OPP were called out and a lot of banter as to whether or not it was actually township or the owners property. Some of the comments are.. well, they'll make you shake your head. We'll leave it at that. Regardless of which it is, some folk are having enough of others lack of respect when it comes to crossing property lines or utilizing a trail that goes through their property that isnt officially opened by the OFSC. Do they need to go as far as t-bar and wire or worse? No absolutely NOT Someone is going to get seriously hurt or worse. The ensuing lawsuit and media fallout will make it even worse for those that abide by the laws. Regardless of whether you ride trails, power lines, powder or d-bang, there will always be a few who ruin it for the masses...

  39. If the consequences hit their wallet hard enough they will pay attention. How about the laws being adapted to similar as those for illegal hunting and fishing. Get caught by a game warden and they have the authority to impound everything used during the violation pending a judge's decision. Get caught on a closed trail or trespassing off trail and the sled is impounded. It could be many months before a judge decides if you get it back

  40. Pics to shame them if you get them all over social media! HCSA did this a few weeks ago with 2 sleds parked in hali.

  41. Education has a role to play for sure but it will not deal with the segment that simply don’t care. No matter how much you explain the consequences of their actions they won’t change their behaviours because there is no direct impact to them in the moment. to me, you will have to create a significant enough consequence in the moment to effect a change. That means fines (significant fines), impoundment of sleds, suspension of drivers licences and any other significant deterrent you can come up with. If you can have impoundments and suspensions for speeding or for blowing in the warning range, surely we can come up with something in the snowmobile world. enhanced enforcement will come with a cost. Both financial and otherwise. If permit prices go up, so be it. If we lose those riders on the margin that either don’t want to pay or don’t want to comply, so be it. What you have left is a group of riders that respect the rules and that’s something you can work with.
