  1. Some more great news from Upper Canada Snowmobile Region (UCSR D-1). This agreement secures 72kms of Top A Trail for this season which allows the United Counties of Prescott-Russell and VIA Rail to work a new deal. Congrats to the executive and volunteers at Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club and the UCSR District Office for the countless hours that have gone into this . http://en.prescott-russell.on.ca/news/what_s_new/ucpr_and_via_rail_canada_extend_lease?fbclid=IwAR29-ERU7wz3c-NJ4EcM17SEWVsVzpF1wTfclEGK77KYTNHqSZyoOLoboYI

  2. I sure hope grca issue can be resolved for next winter. Conestoga lake is one of my favourite riding area’s. Always fun to ride thru lake and end up at tivetdale truck stop for lunch. Should buy a used sled and come out and join some of us for a ride, now that you are in Kitchener area.

  3. Excellent news for sure and great to see the cooperative spirit of those involved. Surely this can be used by others as a template for their area including the Grand River Conservation Association. Always helps having assistance on the inside of the approving authorities such as the 2 Councillors for the Region of Ottawa.

  7. Agreed with you and Blake's comments. No reason to stay any where else for us. When you are treated as good as you are from Brian and Kathy, for example, always having rooms available for us, trust in leaving Trucks/trailers there ($), going above and beyond getting stuff from beer store, coming with the truck and trailer on rescue missions, allowing really really late night, or should i say early morning arrivals, its tough to go somewhere else. And just plain old being great people and friends. Friday night Pizza night at the Westway in the 'off' season in the Westway pizza oven, is tough to beat also.

  8. Really can't go wrong at the Westway. Never had a reason to check out the other places.

  9. Been there many times. Moosonee is not part of the reserve, that's Moose Factory. Did a painful exercise with a hundred or so noob's, two up, towing 500 lbs of gear from Cochrane to Moosonee. That took two days of freezing frigery. Another exercise we loaded trucks, trailers, sleds and all the food, tents, gear etc for half a battalion on the train. The train ride is pretty cool. Most flew in, I got to fly out back to Orillia. Done Cochrane to the Canyon in around 3 hours, from there to Moosonee shouldn't be more than a few more hours on fast sleds. Cochrane to Moosonee would be an easy day for experienced riders. I can't see them not putting in the ice road. It's a life line for supplies and travel....but I've been wrong before... The peeps that live North of the Moose don't need licences, insurance etc...until they get to town. Vehicles get parked at that line, and they get a ride into town lol

  10. There is the cultural center in Moose Factory, the church with holes in the floor for the floods, Hudson Bay outpost, and if you have read any of Joseph Boyden's books i.e. "Three Day Road" or "Through Black Spruce" his imagery of the area featured in these books is remarkable. (some cultural identity questions regards the author) Kentucky Fried Chicken in Moose Factory is practically a traditional food like bannock with the Native people. (when the KFC in Yellowknife went bankrupt some suggested government grants to keep it open based on this premise) Frankly though, best seen in the summer months after getting off the Polar Bear Express railway from Cochrane. Bugs bad.

  11. I’d love to do this trip as well but am thinking it’s also a 2022 trip

  12. With Covid on the rise this might be a trip to skip this year. Sounds like they are purposely not building the winter road north to these communities this winter. You might find you don't get the warmest welcome in an isolated community like Moosenee.

  13. Snowmobiling Updates - SSM Snow has been hard to come by in the Sault Ste. Marie region this winter. We had green grass up until 2 days ago. Today was the 1st opportunity to get out riding this month.

  14. I commend the volunteer(s) taking on this issue on behalf of organized snowmobiling. Most do not understand the work that goes into advacting on our behalf every single year. Something new comes up it seems yearly. Please keep up the good fight, and thank you for bringing this to our attention Fish!

  16. Grand River Conservation Authority take notice. This is how it should be. If the coverage is good enough (which it is) for the city of Ottawa it's good enough for your organization. Congrats to the Upper Canada snowmobile region.
