  2. A late start today so I didnt do a loop. Apsley up to the TOP E and E109 intersection between Harcourt & LSP. Quite a few sleds out & trails were in decent shape. 143 klicks for the day. Memories of Timmins in Harcourt... Fishtail Creek on TOP E

  3. Decent ride out of Port Perry club house today. Not sure how they do it, but ports trails heading east were pretty damm good, got a lil rough closer I got to the Ganny with it getting a hair on the sketchy side closer I got to Rice Lake. You can see clubs have made the most outta the limited snow they have, your efforts are very much appreciated. Lunch at Rhinos, Halibut n fries, wow it was good. Thankfully, with only me, myself and I on the ride, no arguments and nothing but great conversation. Add to that, sled ran n performed like it should, great day.

  8. We started from NL. We start the day at 8AM sharp. We stop generally either 45KM or at 1 hr mark for about 15mins. (Yamaha Vector 4 stroke). Exact same trip this year driving on 8 Feb for the week. Enjoy the trip.

  9. And how is this not trespassing? The trail is listed closed correct? This is exactly why we’re in trouble in Ontario and losing trails at an alarming rate.

  11. I cannot express my pride in the crew that make up the South Seguin. It has been a bit of a discouraging year these folks never gave up. Last year we lost our groomer base with the sale of Alves Auto center. A committee was formed and worked tirelessly to look at options. With a very generous offer from The new owners at the Jolly Roger/Super 8 the old original groomer base was offered up. It took tireless work by the crew but they got it done in style. Bridge problems on the Seguin were the sour taste of the year. The decking on several bridges had suddenly gone to the consistency of wet corn flakes and some special person had fallen through bridge 5 in what looked like a tandem truck failing the bridge. Working with our partners Park to Park as well as the OFSC and PSSD aswell as some cash from SSSC the bridges are safe again. There will be more bridge repairs and replacements in the future. Our Tucker was extremely tired and had repeatadly failed on us last year. Thank you OFSC and PSSD for the replacement rejuvenated Tucker never in my over 30 years with the OFSC have they ever had our back like today. With repeated windstorms and an aging forest windfalls were at an all time high crews were out all fall clearing the trees and getting it done. The Drags are both old and well worn. Joe rebuilt them both professionally and well. Thank You Joe ! I have been with the South Seguin since 1991 and the HCSA for 8 years before that. I have never ever seen a better crew To the Directors ,executive groomers ,volunteers, landowners and supporters I am beyond proud of all of you. Bill Park

  14. I think its a ton of work for the NB club to do their own section, yet alone do temiscamings section. Taking away resources from the main staple of NB trails. It sucks, but i totally agree with the temiscaming club about crossing the bridge with the groomer and drag, in the shape the bridge is in when i looked last Saturday. Theres literally not enough room.. it was tight for my truck and trailer..

  16. I agree with TD. While Papa Franco's is good, I much prefer either Moonbeam Clubhouse or Della Pieta for lunch. Also, taking L123 and exploring some of the loops around Moonbeam is much nicer than the A trail across. We are starting a trip similar to yours, but we are running the first day through almost all of the Moonbeam trails and ending the day in Kap. Still well over 200 Km for the day. The next day, we are riding to Hearst, but including some of the loops to the north of town to stretch that day out a bit. Then we continur on the Dubrueilville and beyond.

  17. Rhinos has gone downhill fast since they had the fire some 5 or so years ago. I personally watched the guy that bought it throw an elderly lady out because she complained about the food. It has been sold again last year, and the food quality remains suspect and the prices are too high! Go to the Lakeview next door, much better food and service.

  18. I can say from experience, USE FLOOR OR KNEE PADS! I've spent the last week & 1/2 on crutches from spending 2 hours on my knees laying carpet at a trade show. Bursitis in the right knee. I thought I had good knees, had down this type of work & other kneeling work frequently in the past. Likely going to miss our sled trip north in a couple weeks because of my knee. Respect the knees!

  19. 4 year warranty on the Polaris 850 when you snowcheck them, no mileage restrictions, I put quite a few miles on my 2019 Indy 850 last year and was worked flawlessly, on our 2020's both have around 1500 miles so far and other than a temp sensor issue which has been looked after sleds are working great. Snowcrest is hosting a Trailside bbq and Polaris Demo Day at Northgate Polaris on Sunday Feb 16th from 11am to 2pm, feel free to stop in and check it out.

  23. Some trails I wouldn’t dream of doing 50. Usually I’m just lugging along. Even in wide long trails/roads I rarely see above 80. I just feel comfortable around 60 on my old sled. I find I’m always letting other guys/gals by me as I’m not a fast driver by any means.

  24. The OFSC press release wasn’t perfectly clear on that and a copy referring to LUP follows. It did say “has not been renewed...” which I have never had to do before, keeps in force unless notified by Landowner but maybe that has changed. Don’t rely on my conjecture or others, your District should be giving the latest direction, if in fact procedural changes have been implemented. It does say “in some of the affected areas” whatever that means. “Land Use Permission agreements are secured by Clubs and Districts; this was again reconfirmed at the latest Board of Governors meeting in January. In some of the affected areas, access to the trails is dependent on the District and Club securing the necessary Land Use Permission (LUP) from the owners of the subject properties. Wherever an LUP has not yet been renewed or granted by the landowner, the trails remain closed. The OFSC has always and continues to consult with and assist Districts and Clubs to ensure key land use agreements do not result in personal liability exposure for our valuable volunteers.“

  25. That is a LONG day. C101D is not like the 'Corridor' so you don't want to dilly dally. Mind you if you only have to drive to NL after loading up in Cochrane, that's not too bad. I wouldn't attempt it if a person was heading further south. Denis, they may be trying to avoid the road running on TOP A in the Matheson & Val Gagne areas by staging in Cochrane.

  26. They groomed d103b today, showing yellow now. I just got back from a short run to check the HGR trails out. D103b towards freds place was bumpy and didnt look like it had been dragged yet, that section always needs alot of snow. Maybe the marsh towards baysville is still sketchy also? Anyone know? I turned around and went up a nicely goomed 51, turned around at lynx lake and headed back to the lake. The groomer is out on the east side right now.West side is groomed, went up 50 half way and its all good. Even my access trail has been groomed. For the folks coming north from snocrest/BB and wanting get to dorset/dwight and beyond i would recommend crossing Mary(its staked but slushy in spots)to 51 to d102 to 54 then hop on penn lake or LOB to dwight.

  29. Been on a sled since the early 60s and from my experience with sledders around me, those that have a good head on their shoulders by keeping within the speed required to always stay on their side of the trail, never blow corners and don't pour a handful of beers down their throats at every chance are seldom if ever the ones responsible for a crash. Typically the half in the bag rider is the one you have to wait for at every road crossing all morning but once they've got a belly full of hero juice are the ones out front, same ones that blow a corner and stuff it into the bush. Just as dangerous, the oblivious rider who has zero zero zero comprehension / awareness there are others out on the trail. They are typically doodling along taking in the sights, start from a side trail and ride out in front of you or stop to chat with others just over the crest of a hill. Same rider is always the one to yell n scream your riding too fast when you crested the blind hill n all but clobbered them or almost hit head on when they were not paying attention and going wrong way on a one way trail. It's the same mentality as the idiotic powers to be in Toronto lowering speed limits to "save the pedestrians". Good freakin grief, have the balls to bring in a Zombie law, enforce pedestrian laws n stop them from walking willy nilly off every curb because pedestrians always have the right of way. Gotta be a ton of satisfaction with that as the last through through your mind as the you step off the curb against the walk sign and get run over.

  30. Apparently the critical Court case was sometime in October that probably precipitated this situation. It seems OFSC had to revise their LUP Agreement as a consequence of the court decision. This takes time. Then they had to send new LUP to District/Clubs which seem like they needed to get every Landowner to review and renew the new LUP. Big Landowners likely had their lawyers get involved and maybe amendments go back and forth, etc. This takes a lot of time and Christmas interval doesn’t help so here we are in January. Sounds to me that we are lucky this hasn’t shut down more trails. Everybody is obviously hugely disappointed, especially in those areas having major trail closures. My major beef is OFSC timing and explanation of the issues bringing this about. Bottom line, as it always has been, if a Landowner decides not to offer their property for trail use then game over. Both the Feds and Province need to offer inducements to property owners to grant permission for public trail use.

  31. The CBC News report posted above seem to be pretty factual although lacking a comment from OFSC Senior representatives. It seems to confirm the basic facts being discussed here. I don’t believe that this thread should be locked but any poster can certainly delete their post at any time.

  32. Looks good! Moose horn lodge in chapleau is a nice place to stay and is easy to access for snowmobilers. Food was amazing there too. If you fill up at halfway you can make it to Indian reserve, without having to go into chapleau for fuel. Indian reserve is just other side of chapleau and trail goes right by fuel station. Can’t miss it. Good luck.

  35. If the west side doesn’t open soon, it will really impact the operations of Base Camp? They struggle as it is to keep things alive, and with this stretch still being closed I’m sure it will really hurt their business.

  36. Make sure to take in the L125, and L123 beauty's around Kapuskasing and Moonbeam on your way to Hearst from Cochrane. Some of the best trails in Ontario IMO.... I can be found frequently on those....

  37. In cochrane now and the west side is open, fellows next door at the West away rode the west side returning , said it was a little choppy for a small portion the rest they said was perfectly groomed and they were the only ones that had been on the freshly groomed portion!!

  38. Not sure what else you need, looks well planned from what I see. We did this the opposite way 2 years ago, and doing the same this year since my splash last year in QC, I need to do trails I've been doing for 20 years, to get back in the saddle. I'm just on my porch having a stoggy and rum, but when I go inside, I'll post my fuel stops, which should also list times, so you can then add eta''s (extrapolated from my data) if you wish. it's a good cigar, give me an hour. (We go the opposite way because you can make up time along the top if you get snowed in along the bottom.)

  39. Rode down thru E107 yesterday. I saw south of the McKay Lake Road that the snowfencing has been knocked down and the TRAIL CLOSED sign has been ignored. The landowner is aware of this. THE FORMER PTB 632 TRAIL IS CLOSED! ANYONE USING IT TO ACCESS THE RESTAURANT IS TRESPASSING. THIS MAY AFFECT EFFORTS IN THE FUTURE.
