  1. I cannot express my pride in the crew that make up the South Seguin. It has been a bit of a discouraging year these folks never gave up. Last year we lost our groomer base with the sale of Alves Auto center. A committee was formed and worked tirelessly to look at options. With a very generous offer from The new owners at the Jolly Roger/Super 8 the old original groomer base was offered up. It took tireless work by the crew but they got it done in style. Bridge problems on the Seguin were the sour taste of the year. The decking on several bridges had suddenly gone to the consistency of wet corn flakes and some special person had fallen through bridge 5 in what looked like a tandem truck failing the bridge. Working with our partners Park to Park as well as the OFSC and PSSD aswell as some cash from SSSC the bridges are safe again. There will be more bridge repairs and replacements in the future. Our Tucker was extremely tired and had repeatadly failed on us last year. Thank you OFSC and PSSD for the replacement rejuvenated Tucker never in my over 30 years with the OFSC have they ever had our back like today. With repeated windstorms and an aging forest windfalls were at an all time high crews were out all fall clearing the trees and getting it done. The Drags are both old and well worn. Joe rebuilt them both professionally and well. Thank You Joe ! I have been with the South Seguin since 1991 and the HCSA for 8 years before that. I have never ever seen a better crew To the Directors ,executive groomers ,volunteers, landowners and supporters I am beyond proud of all of you. Bill Park

  3. Hi Fellow Snowmobilers: My name is Doug, on forums I go by the name Wrench. Just moved to Barrie from Nova Scotia this summer & grew up in Labrador City, Newfoundland. I'm currently a member of the Sno-Voyageurs snowmobile club when I purchase my yearly Ontario trail pass. I have been snowmobiling since 1966 when Dad gave the family our 1st Ski Doo Olympic. I have held various executive positon's, volunteer positions & groomer operator, trail patroller with the following snowmobile clubs over the years. White Wolf Snowmobile Club & Labrador Winter Trails - Host City for "Cain's Quest" & most recently with the Driftclimbers Snowmobile Club in Fall River, Nova Scotia. I have been sledding off & on in Ontario for the last 5 years between NS & ON depending on snow conditions. I have done the RAP Tour, a week at Mattawa Golf & Ski & the local trails around Barrie. Hoping this winter able to get some more great sledding. Lots to see in Ontario. I was informed about this site from a fellow sledder in Barrie and suggested this site to meet other fellow sledders. So if you see a post looking for a riding buddy for a day trip around Barrie, I have introduced myself. Stay safe on the trails this winter.

  5. I was puzzled by this as well, but filed on line for the insurance rebate at the same time as buying a trail pass - both arrived in the mail roughly at the same time and no fee for rebate. The number required is confusing - trail pass purchase transaction number worked for me: BTW - in addition to the trail conditions now added to the FCMQ map, Sled Magazine has a new format for the trail conditions they were posting last year - very informative descriptions of regions, clubs, trail conditions, accommodations, etc. ....kind of a one stop shop: URL: https://sledmagazine.com/actions/decouvrirRegion?request_locale=en&regId=20 It is this type of marketing and a decent trail map that should take place in Ontario instead of a circle jerk of good old boys supporting a magazine whose sole function seems to be advertising illegal after-market parts.

  6. Since you do not have the original permit, you will need to have a police report when filing for the replacement permit. The last time I did this (a couple of seasons ago) I was able to file the report online with OPP. You get an email response with a report number. From there log into your profile, confirm your personal info. The next screen should show your sled and old permit details. Select the Replace option and follow the instructions. If you run into any problems you can send an email to permits@ofsc.on.ca.

  9. Found on trail 430 a few kms east of Kinmount this afternoon. The OPP were loading up their sleds beside us at the parking lot(north of Buckhorn) and I gave them the phone. It is at the Peterborough OPP station.

  10. 2 days of racing on 3/8 mile track on the ice at viamede stony lake , ontario oval ice racers www. osorlife.ca i believe boathouse and hotel both open track is in great shape over 30 race classes available all ages same event as golden beach last couple years The ice on stoney has some pressure cracking and a mud hole issue on exit trail near head of stoney. Main routes have been run from mcrackens landing and rice lake club trail as well as kosh lake trails anyone unfamiliar with the kawartha lakes area is best to ask before driving on ice In the stony area ice is always unsafe to the west and south near the main trent canal current from burliegh falls The lake is heavily snow covered at the moment and not staked some slushy spots and pressure cracking has occured Because of the current that exists in the kawartha lakes main trent canal channel , never go southwest of viamede hotel or anywhere in the entire kawartha lakes near the main bouyed channel Nightime it is vary easy to get disoriented at night and end up in open water

  11. Hi Blake..... I might have. I just chatted with some guys at the gas station in Haliburton and a couple looking for directions to the restaurant in Kinmount. I didn't expect to see you or I would have kept an eye out. My mind was on keeping a look out for any riders in black that were whacking people. Didn't want to get ambushed. Someday we might catchup. Cheers.

  12. I have been inactive as a club volunteer for 2 seasons. More involved at the Provincial level, but still like to still get my hands dirty on trails, helping out various clubs. It seems to be the new culture these days, playing stupid and asking for forgiveness when caught. As for the trail being removed from the ITG for a season. It is likely being treated as a decommissioned trail since no Land Permission was granted for the season. Trail Closed signs should be posted and the club moves along until next year. Having a trail still listed on the ITG, is more inviting for trespassers intentional or not. My view anyways!

  14. Awful. Simply awful. In many Quebec lodges I have stayed there are people (families, young children) from Europe (France, largely) who are attracted here for the “Canadian Experience”. Dog Sledding, Ice Skating, a Polar Dip, Snowmobiling and so on. I’ve met and talked with many who are Thrilled with the Canadian Winter and are taking back fantastic memories. So Sad. This is NOT the Polar Dip they signed up for. I could cry.

  15. WTF. Why the secrecy? Does anyone know why the OFSC doesn’t comment on an issue that threatens the trail system we all pay to ride on? If the “leadership” refuses to inform the members, someone should have the cahonas to talk about it!

  16. Last Monday afternoon three of us drove from the GTA to Windy Lake Motel. As usual the Linton family and staff were great hosts for Monday night's supper, stay, and Tuesday breakfast. Called to try to book Post 392 for Tuesday night, but they were "closed". I didn't make the call so I don't know if that was just closed for the day or more to it. Had great snow, weather and trail conditions on C111D and C to Tata-Chika-Pika for Tuesday night. First time staying there with recent owners (2 years). Again experienced great hospitality, supper and breakfast(a bit too large for all of us). Good conditions again Wednesday took us up C and A106C to Cochrane for late lunch at Tim's. Then it was south on the A trail to Iroquois Falls and Auberge MacDonald for the night and our first stay there. Even though there was no restaurant onsite, I can recommend the place. It is beside the beer store, across from the liquor store and acceptable restaurants are close by. Complimentary muffin and coffee was Thursday's breakfast. Also complimentary at the Auberge was indoor heated sled storage. Nice touch that would quickly be oversubscribed if more that five sleds showed up. Thursday started out cold at -22 and windy and stayed pretty much the same all day as our trip took us to Auld Reekie Lodge at Gowganda. Good hospitality, service and food again, if a bit more expensive. The A trail south of Matheson to almost Kirkland Lake was the only bit of nasty trail we encountered in four days. Good chance to use that expensive modern suspension. Friday AM began with -29 temp, but quickly warmed up in the bright sunshine. We had an enjoyable ride back across A107C to C south and 111 back to Windy Lake. Our original plan was to ride a bit in the Sudbury area Friday and drive home Saturday but the impending snow storm scared us off. We rode directly to Windy Lake Motel, had a great early supper and drove home. Great friends, mostly great weather and trail conditions for four days. Found two, new to us, overnight destinations in Tata-Chika-Pika and Auberge MacDonald. Can't wait for the next trip!

  17. Well, the guide should have known - be'inst that is what he is hired for. The others were following someone that was s'posed to have known. Falling through in a current is usually a death sentence I think. Terrible.

  18. Thanks a lot to everyone who put so much effort and time to prepare and maintain Seguin trails, especially this year with tricky weather condition.

  23. Terry .... you should stay at Spectacle Lake Lodge in Madawasga then do the loop including Lake St Peter, Bancroft and back. The lodge is food included and is the best you can eat on the trails (besides Rocky's). Next day scoot across the Lake and head into Pembroke and back. Cheers.

  24. Absolutely disgusting. I wish this would happen to myself on the trail. Unless I was completely unable to ride Id catch up to them and guaranteed they wouldn't be getting back out of the bush without medical assistance.

  25. This is just absolutely ridiculous. These loosers need to be found, and the key thrown away. You get no second chances for this one. I have seen the post and pics, and it seems all real. OPP need to put these pieces of garbage behind bars. I will only post the area that this happened in. The post has pictures of the injuries and its not right to post those..We need to be ever vigilant out there. WOW. What a shame. I know what my reaction will be, if i see them coming..
