2027 Season

Wasn't sure to start another thread but here goes.

It's near the end of June and we have 3 groomers parked at our shop, 2 of which we used and one from another club. One of groomers was to be mothballed last year and it snapped an axle at the end of the season. Do we fix it or will it be gone? Don't know.

We, at this time, don't know if any of these groomers(drags) will be in our portfolio this coming winter so no extra maintenance/repairs other than post season maintenance has been done.

The allocation of groomers, IMO, should have been done by now so clubs can do the pre-season maintenance/repairs on them. Some of the groomers/drags need some serious work/welding etc. . We still don't know if we are going from 2 groomers to 1 and which one/two or another will be our groomer(s).

We like to be proactive. It's frustrating.

Time will tell.

Sled prices falling large ?

As I see it sled prices are falling of a cliff especially 2022- 24 I guess the lack of snow ,poor interest rates on new and used and inflation in what you need are combining to push sled prices down like pre covvvvvid what are you guys seeing?

Currently running Toyo open country AT2’s. Quite possibly the worst tire I’ve ever had. Looking for new tires in the fall and considering all seasons for my 2500HD.
I don’t care about looks, I want performance, longevity and definitely something quiet & comfortable.

What are you running on your trucks?

Snowmobilers charged and fined for going off-trail in Wellington County

3 kids running fields charged. This is good, but the fine for trespass is a mere 65 bucks. Is that a enough to deter this behaviour? I doubt it. Should be at minimum 500.

2026 Ontario season

There are people spewing ofsc has a 5 million deficit and is proposing to cut trails in every district this coming winter.
Some say we are going from 31,000 down to 24,000 km's of trail. Others are saying it's closer to 22,000 km. Anybody know any real facts or are they just doing some current proposals?
They also said passes are going up 7 percent. That's a big deficit to over come after a great winter 😳

2026 OFSC PERMITS

I received the 2 permits today that I had ordered at the same time on Oct. 17th. I paid for shipping and processing on both permits as well as tracking. Both permits were mailed in one envelope. I haven't received my Visa bill yet to confirm the amounts I got charged but it looks to me like I may have paid for postage twice and tracking twice for one envelope. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

PSA for our touring people. After Jan 24th there will be no restaurant or readily accessible hot food in Hornepayne. Eat's N Treat's will be closing. I know lots of people run from Hearst to Hornepayne for a "lunch" ride so, I wanted to post a heads up so, you dont go there and be hungry and mad at the situation.

Polaris 9R XCR Fuel Mileage

So now that I've got some time on my 9R XCR & had a chance to compare the fuel mileage to my wife's '23 650 Indy Adventure I thought I'd share what I found. We rode trails & lakes yesterday from Port Loring to Dunchurch for 45 miles (72km) and then filled both sleds back up;

9R XCR 136 - 18.5 litres

650 Indy Adventure 137 - 14.2 litres

I was running harder on the lakes & playing a bit out in the powder that's on the lakes there with all the recent snowfall. I have to be honest I am quite happy at the fuel mileage of my 9R. I don't think the 9R uses that much more fuel over the 850. My 850 was always within a litre of my friends 850 XRS.

Spent a week in Nfld recently. Never been, was quite an experience. Flew into Deer Lk and rode out of Corner Brook for the week. Craig Borden , Rugged Edge in Corner Brook is the man! All the staff we interacted with were equally accommodating, absolutely top notch. Excellent guide and host. We rode a variety of sleds. I rode a 146 Polaris Voyageur 650 all week. Other sleds were Yamaha transporter and AC Norseman 800s 154 skid. All excellent shape and no issues.
Primarily rode from Deer Lk west to Corner Brook then South to Stephenville and north of Corner Brook to Woody Point. Lots of snow and trails generally well maintained. Very remote riding areas..little to no services between towns. Vast areas of crown to play off trail. Lots of warm up shacks to stop at, we always packed lunch and snacks. I would call it adventure sledding..it helps if you are into remote riding and navigating more remote areas. The locals pretty much just use the trails to access remote camps and off trail play areas. Huge bog areas and cut over areas to play in. I found it to be more similar to BC riding than anything else I’ve experienced in the east. Terrain and weather similar to Gaspe Que riding..can get very windy and poor visibility w squalls and drifting. If you enjoy exploring off trail breaking your own trail in the hills this is it. The area south of Corner Brook in the Lewis Hills and Blow me down Mountains on the west coast is huge. You could spend an entire week riding out of CB and playing in this area and never run out of new ground.
All that being said..I’d go back. The people of Nfld are the best. Very welcoming and truly want you to experience their customs and way of life. I’ve heard from others this same description but you must see it to appreciate it. Every where we went we were made to feel like friends and family.

We did this out and back run yesterday. Trails were generally good; a bit rough nr Whitney, awesome around LSP. No significant water cuts. Wow, the club clears a lot of downed trees around Harcourt and south.

Staging - Ville Marie

Where is the best place to stay and stage from in the Ville Marie area for a 3 - 4 day sadllebag trip? Looking to head north tomorrow night. Was going to Sainte Anne du Lac and doing a loop, but TQ93 was recently closed south of Chibougamau which has us changing plans last minute.

Anyone know why the c108d which runs south of long lake towards Killarney is marked yellow?

I have run the section before and it’s tight trails through the woods. And should be ok. Has a a creek collapsed?

Earlton to Kirkland Lake

Does anyone know why A108, A109 and L162 north of Earlton are still "red"? I have been following the ITG and the weather this past week and seen everything around there open back up after the thaw, but not those, along with A110Q which is a tough one to recover after a big thaw. I just booked 4 nights in Kirkland Lake, hoping to spend at least one day riding south of there. If those trails don't open, we will try to get accommodations to ride the Northern Corridor and cancel Tuesday and Wednesday night in KL. I tried to get some insight from TATA, but no reply yet.

Wawa to Chapleau shows by the ITG to be about 258kms, is there fuel available between these two towns? Don't want to carry a gas caddy if I don't have to

I got out again yesterday with my good friend Terry Felner on his Prostate Extreme raffle sled that he won. we ran from our Seguin shop over to our Port Sydney shop. The trails were great we pounded on almost 170 miles stopped at Heart of Muskoka fries for a repast.

I really miss supporting the fundraiser and awareness raiser cause of the Proste Extreme team on snow. Frankly if it was not for the awareness that I learned there I would not have been so careful with my PSA tests that led to a very good outcome for me.

Anyhow trails were great I have had some great rides this year and that is something that I have not been able to say for quite a few years. Rock on and be careful. It is better to have memories than to leave behind memories.
