Who Should Have Waited to Buy a Sled.....

So since we have a "who's Getting a new sled this winter thread" I thought I would err on the side of negativity....I hate you Mother Nature..... and ask who should have bought a new sled next year instead of this year...

I for one have now started to look at my sled and think perhaps it was money wasted this year and I should have bought it next year. I could have afforded a newer model and for the same money

Just find a fool to buy it now. Lots of buyers out there for used sleds. If you didn't over pay, it will sell. I am picking up a left over at the end of the season. Going to get a great deal, especially if the current weather continues. Bright side is, there is always next year bud.

But it would be a year older next year. :lmao:

I admit that I am bummed out by the season this year, just like everyone else.

But I have ridden every week this year. My mileage is down a little, but not much. Conditions have not been ideal, but it is riding! I am heading north to Kearney again this weekend and will ride again.

I read a business case once which introduced me to the word "disincentive". A woman in California realized that for most people, cutting up vegetables took up too much time and was a "disincentive" to eating fresh salad. So she decided to wash, cut up, and bag vegetables to make salad eating easier. The idea caught on, the woman made a mint and pre-made salad is widely available - although I find the bags a PITA to open.

More to your topic, I was out of sledding for 2 years, despite enjoying it very much. I decided to get back into it and this time, eliminate as many of the disincentives as I could. Parking at the camp waiting for good conditions wasn't an option, as snow was bad some years, so replaced a 900 lb. trailer with an easily managed 300 lb. multi-use trailer. Got storage bags for all gear to make moving equipment easier. Luckily, a lighter non-touring 4 stroke sled with the option of carrying a passenger was introduced, so after a test drive at the dealer, decided it was more than adequate for my needs - easily trailered, gas saving, no blue smoke, options (while pricey) were easy to get and install, quiet, quick and manueverable.

Getting the sled this year (Thanksgiving) gave me nice weather in the fall for modifications, and the time allowed to consider types of studding, tracks, covers etc. as well as build up a wish list of places we would like to go. And so far, haven't done too badly on the riding end with the expectation of more riding by choosing places most likely to have good conditions in the winter or something else to do if conditions turn bad.

Mother Nature has indeed been cruel. That is the chance you take with any toys. Just came back from the boat show and lots of people writing deals. One dealer I know told me he has sold 75% of last years numbers already and the show still has a lot of steam left. Boaters need to hope Mother Nature doesn't give them a cold wet summer which has happened in the past.

With any luck it will be a late start and a late finish. Be optimistic. Are you a glass half empty or a glass half full kind of person.

For those who have waited, there are leftovers at the Dealers for really good prices.

A couple of Yamaha sled deals near me:

2011 Apex SE for $12500 (MSRP $17800)

2011 Apex standard $12000 (MSRP $16700)

I came close to getting one, but in the end, I didn't want another heavy sled.
