New Trail to Horseshoe Resort

Reved

There is a new trail on the Interactive Map this year leading to Horseshoe. A possible destination for an over nighter as it is on the trail.

Any update on this trail?

With the early snow I think it has delayed it's progress.

I'm curious if the resort is providing a good route from the end of this trail to the Inn? ... it looks like this trail ends at the condos on the backside of the hill? Doubt they'd take kindly to us riding down the ski hill to get to the base ;)

We stayed there last year for a few nights of skiing and snowmobiling ... they didn't cater well wrt snowmobiling (but still had a great time). I asked a bunch of the staff about getting to the trails from the resort, they had no clue. Not a biggy we trailered out a little ways (didn't like the prospect of scaping down the side of the valley road).

Planning to stay there again this year ... would be great to have the option to ride out from the Inn rather then trailer.

The trail is still in the works from my understanding, and I'm not sure if the resort has cut thier trail yet.

It appears that the trail will begin/terminate at Line 3 North. Running Line 3 North to Horseshoe Valley Road is okay but Horseshoe Valley Road means riding the shoulder down to the Resort. Sometimes a track will appear on the ditch after the guard rail. There is more often a ditch track going the other way to Craighurst which passes a road into the County Forest which may connect with the new trail 244 which appears to also cut through the County Forest from Line 3 to Line 2 (maybe farther west).

Also from Horseshoe Resort there is a maintenance road from the front parking lot which goes east up near to Line 4 which can be run south down to Old Bass Lake Road and connect to 201 further east. Unfortunately these routes off the roads are rough riding.

The new 422 appears to run Old Bass Lake Road between the lower and upper parts of Line 3 Northe for a stretch and continuing east instead of continuing up the upper part of Line 3 on 422 will also get to 201 at Line 5. And on the way you go by Line 4 which could be run north to Horseshoe Valley Road and lead to the Horseshoe Resort by way of the maintenace road heading west. The Resort could be encouraged to open up this route for guests as current use is probably trespassing where nobody complains.

Here's hoping this new trail is completed. It will open up a route to the west for me rather than a round about way to B.

Welcome HV Snow Rider to the forum. The trail is still morphing into shape. The exact route is not in stone/sweat yet. It will be nice to have an overnight destination in the Sno Voyageurs trail system when this is completed.

Great info. It will provide a shorter route for many riders in the area.

Haven't look closely at topography, but since it's @ horseshoe, may be some lovely views in the area.

You know...... we, as clubs, have got all sorts of common challenges that include, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, landowner issues, town council issues, groomer issues, signing issues, liability issues, staking issues, etc etc etc.

Why in Gawd's name can't clubs get along when it comes to maps ferchrissakes ??? Too much political BullSh*t is the answer. Fercryinoutlowd folks, we are all supposed to be in this together. Focus on the chalenges not on the BS.

As Pogo once said "We have met the enemy and he is us" !!!

Looks like this a go for this season. Horseshoe is dancing to get on board, bout time IMO, but does not look like it will be in time to hit the printers for the maps.

Will prob discuss more tonight at our bbq.

We golfed there a few weeks ago at a charity golf tournament, and the resort had a good buzz.

Let's hope the trail goes through.

Look forward to it, WD.

Yep, sledding out of the Midland area again this season. Found the routes from there to Collingwood, Stayner, etc. were awesome last year. Easy to get to Orillia as well.

Finally ran some Sno Voyager trails as well.

New to the Forum and have a question about the trail coming out from Horshoevalley Resort.

Is this trail going to be open (providing we get some snow). Looking if it's possible to ride over to the race way in Barrie to watch the snow cross races on jan 26-28th. Would be fun to ride to watch the races. Is it possible to ride from the resort out to the raceway in Barrie?

Looking at the interactive trail map on the ofsc website, it looks like it could be done but would like to know if anyone in the riding area thinks its possible. On top of that, how are the conditions looking in the area? I went through last weekend and there was not much snow to speak of.

Any insight would be great. Wishing for snow so everyone can go riding.

Take care,
