Yeah. But is it "Limited", "Closed", or "Open". :wtf:

Me thinks "open" is ok, but of course that would be in reference to "open" water... :?

Hopefully it will get stiff soon!

Happy sledding! Snorkling?

Darn Tootin' ! After running Muskoka Road 6 since 2006, we're going back over Beaver Creek. This time, with a MONSTER bridge - a far cry from the 2x4's and logs we had thrown in there 'back in the day'. Here's a few pictures of the construction that is going on right now. We should be complete by December 1st.

Thanks a lot, Mossy...just when those memories were finally subsiding, you have to go and dredge them up again (so to speak... )

I've shown great restraint on this subject in recent months, but clearly you just couldn't resist the temptation... :poke:

Way to GO!...I'm right there with you in spirit! :rotflmao:

Actually, the bridge goes right over Kahshe Lake and deposits riders on the B trail just north of Orillia, east side of Couchie, where, on a good day, we can watch Canuck do his FreeStyle Show .... . . . . . . .

Snowcrest Riders score $400,000 for Beaver Creek Trail D crossing

October 14, 2009 - by Matt Driscoll

It appears the Snowcrest Riders have finally found their bridge over troubled waters.

Last week Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement and Rick Antaya of the National Trails Coalition announced that the Snowcrest Riders have been awarded almost $400,000 for the construction of a bridge to span Beaver Creek along snowmobile Trail D in Gravenhurst.

The cost of the project will be split between the federally funded trails coalition and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs.

“As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, we are boosting local economies by creating jobs, getting shovels in the ground, and enhancing trails for outdoors enthusiasts,” said Clement.

For the Snowcrest Riders, building the bridge has been a long and sometimes difficult process.

In 2001, a makeshift bridge was created to span the creek on a section of municipally owned property. However, that bridge was torn down and the Town of Gravenhurst fined $5,000 when the Department of Fisheries and Oceans determined in 2006 that the bridge violated the Federal Fisheries Act. The stream had reportedly been substantially altered by infilling with soil which the department maintained had disrupted a cold-water fish habitat and ordered the bridge be removed.

The bridge was removed and Trail D from Taverner Road to the Conservation Club lands at Doe Lake was rerouted onto the shoulder of Doe Lake Road.

“It’s rather dangerous and rather risky,” said Sandi Clarke, Snowcrest Riders’ office administrator. “It’s also hard on the snowmobiles and on the residents in the area.”

The club applied for funding for the bridge last year through the Muskoka Snowmobile Region but was denied in favour of a Parry Sound-area project.

“The president of the (Snowcrest) club, Bob Clarke, has been fighting for two years to try and get this bridge put back in,” said Sandi Clarke.

All of the proper permits have now been obtained from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Ministry of Natural Resources, said Clarke, and work began on the bridge in late September.

“All of the in-water work has now been completed. They’re telling us that the actual bridge will take seven days to build so we’re hoping to have everything ready for this season,” said Clarke. “It will have three cribs so it actually goes over the water. Something similar to a Bailey bridge will go on top.”

The National Trails Coalition is a not-for-profit organization funded by the federal government. It has been allotted $25 million to invest in trail developments for both motorized and non-motorized uses.
