Orillia Area Trails - Update

Orillia Club is working overtime to move water (flooding) and now to dig out from the heavy dump of snow (which doesn't appear to be letting up). Groomers have been making progress on West /North Side of Lake Couchiching (203 and B Trail). Broke trail (204 Lake Trail) @ two sleds from Moose Beach to Holcroft Road (picks up B105C) this afternoon. A lot of snow (16 -24 inches with drifting)...real heavy going. Some signs of other traffic... Most stakes are still in place (We hope to be out Friday afternoon) to clean up/replace those that fell victim to the melt and to drill some test holes. Noticed a pool of surface water off Borland street near the fish huts...weight of snow is probably pushing water up through abandoned fishing holes. Appears to be an ice ridge about 2/3 rds of the way from Moose Beach to the "T" sign (204 to ice trail to pick up B Trail on East Side of lake)...felt the "bump" through the deep snow.

Some of the senior folks in our club suggest that ice trail to the east side of the lake may take a few more cold nights to thicken up. USE EXTREME CARE if you decide to venture out.

A real CATCH 22...we need to get the snow packed down to make ice...need more ice.....

Appreciate any related trail condition info from any others who have been taking advantage of the big snow.

The trails were pretty good today. I rode from the CTC gas bar in Orillia down the rail line, up 203 to B and then the rail line to Coldwater for lunch. Left Coldwater and headed to Moonstone and back to B and 203 to the rail line into Orillia. The road sides were O.K. to run on without burning up the carbides and sliders. They will need to groom soon just to widen the trail. Most of the field trails are only 1 sled wide because of the deep snow.

That open hole off of Borland street by the fish huts is being used by an otter or mink.I caught sight of him a couple of times last weekend when out there fishing. It's not a small hole either so take caution going around that area if you're coming out from that road to link up.
