revrnd
From their Faceplant page: Quote E trail washout on Tallan Lake Road First off, fantastic work spreading the word and responding to our appeal for help. Council received about 200 emails in under 24 hours which was a great response and put council on notice that there is a large, organized group that need to be considered in the future. As of this morning our facebook appeal had been shared 72 times and the post had reached over 13,300!!! Thank you! North Kawartha reviewed the proposal for giving up responsibility for the road maintenance on the section of the E trail we were all concerned about. They received the submissions from snowmobilers and others. Landowners, representatives from The Paudash Trail Blazers as well as other concerned citizens also appeared at the Council meeting to voice their objection to the proposal. While the Council did not make a definite commitment to taking charge of the road, there was a majority in favour of repairing the problems that had previously been identified. There was motion passed to come up with other options. The mayor clarified there is a need for both a short term solution and long term. Options must come back to council before any fix can be applied. The Mayor will be having a separate meeting with the affected landowners and The Paudash Trail Blazers before a final decision is rendered. We will follow up with Council and keep you up to date on developments. Like the page for further updates.
revrnd
This is the washout on Tallan Lake Road/TOP E at Pratt's Creek today. The Paudash Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the nearby landowners are working to convince the Township of North Kawartha to repair the road. Pics taken facing north. smokeater466
Rail Trail from Gooderham to Tory Hill is closing due to a landowner dispute with ATV's and people accessing their land and giving them a hard time. Contrary to popular belief, it's not all on public land
yamadan700
Yup. Heard about it. Frustrating. Assume the 607 will be closed as well as I can't see a reroute being done. Almost makes the BDSC 509 a dead end trail as the HCSA 9 has hardly been open over the last few years. BDSC opened a new section last year at the top of the 509 to accommodate a great landowner. That costs $$$ and time. Again, frustrating. Sad for the businesses in Gooderham. Nobody will be buying gas or food.
stoney
I have a few times dropped in Tory Hill, always went North from there though - checked out the trail south once and found it be quite a bit lower on snow and not as good, but with less snow, not surprising. Curious, if it is apparently an ATV issue, is that just an excuse to also shut down the sledding portion use of the trail too - perhaps been a long time coming? Regardless, not good for that area. yamadan700
From my understanding, they were ok with the sleds but not the ATVs. I believe the threats from the ATVers changed their thinking as they were concerned for the safety of themselves and their properties, both summer and winter. Hopefully things will change for next year.
grover_yyz
To add to the closures in the area the rail trail is to close due to a bridge needing replacement between Tory Hill and Wilberforce. Jerry
