Recommended Posts

Heading up to Kearney this week for 2 nights staying at the Edgewater Resort.

Any suggestions on a good day loop, 200-250 km we could do for the one full day we have. And a lunch stop also. Group of guys.

Know of the the ice caves to the east, any other sites we should take in.

Thanks

We have stayed in Kearney the last few years and I would agree that a good loop for the day is down to Dwight, then Dorset over to Baysville, Port Sydney then D north back to the  Seguin. Lunch and fuel in Dorset, fuel again just up the trail on the highway in Port Sydney. Take LOB from Dwight to Dorset to save a bit of time if necessary. Either the entire lake from 77, or part from 76. A few options coming home on the D to cut acrosss to the east and shorten the trip a bit as well if you’re short on time, daylight, fuel etc.

We have done a variation of this a few times. D north, check out the ice caves, to Sundridge, west to Magnetawan, south to the Seguin and back to Edgewater.

Farther north or west can add some miles to the trip as well.

great mid week run with little traffic.

Thanks guys for the input. Heading there early tomorrow morning. Will be interesting Wednesday morning if there is a foot or more of fresh snow.

Enough to make you abandon the sport, or head up to Cochrane.

Back home from our Kearney trip. Trails are excellent after this new snow.

By Wednesday morning there was 12" of new fresh powder. Rode Wednesday morning breaking trail in the powder. Groomers were out and by noon was hitting fresh groomed trails. Wow, fun riding. Soft snow so amazing how 8 sleds would cut up the trail even riding sensibly.

This Morning it was -12C , trails were set up nice where they groomed last night. We only had time for a short ride. Perfect sunny crisp morning. Lots of snow in that area now.

We stayed at the Edgewater Lodge, great place will go back again.

Thanks to the clubs and groomer operators for all the hard work

Be advised: Trail 306 from Burks Falls to Katrine is now closed due to logging.  Probably for the rest of the season.  A re-route is being signed to follow Ferguson Rd instead of the normal bush trail.  Less than ideal,  but the only available route in that area with this short notice.  Alternate northbound would be D123 from Kearney to 306 into Burks Falls.
