Great Short Day on the Corridor

Got a late start today, sat around until everyone got up (that takes lots of time on Saturdays).  Woke up the wife past 11 finally, figured they were going to stagnate around here so Screw it... I went out solo, headed out just around noon.  Wasn't originally planning to go very far (-21 and a good wind) but ended up doing the Fushimi loop, then over the chain of lakes, backtracked and rode the lakes for a while.  Part way down the bush section of the Fushimi trail there was this vibration getting worse in my left running board (felt it earlier but just barely), stopped at a sheltered spot, yup, sure enough the outer carcass on the inboard side of the drive belt peeled almost all the way around.  Swapped on the spare belt and carried on, vibration free.

Just after the last bridge on the A trail before the Fushimi road there looked like a rail camp set up on a makeshift siding next to the tracks ... someone had been in there just before I got there, as there were very fresh vehicle tracks in the freshly fallen snow.  Nice little setup, would make a nice trappers camp ...

The Valentine Creek bridge is just barely visible in the pic below ....

I guess they're using the rails for access, it's a couple or 3 km's to the Fushimi road from here.  No vehicle tracks on the trail, thankfully.  Didn't take many pics due to the -30ish windshield factor.

Only saw 1 sled on the trails until I got really close to Lac Ste. Therese, where I saw 2 or 3 more.  Ran the lakes for a little while ....

Came back to town, fueled up the sled (I always park it full, just in case ...)  on my way out of the Esso, this young fellow was out playing ... I flagged him down and asked if I could take his picture, he's a nice young lad works at the McD, and he's a customer at our shop.  Always happy to see old leaf spring bangers out riding the trails.  He had ridden to Mattice and back earlier, was killing time before his shift at work.  Ended up riding with him around town and on the river.  Nice kid.

.. and Yes Revrnd et al, the pop-up headlight DOES work, he was proud to show it off ...

I had to do another 6 or 7 km's, before parking the sled, as the odometer was just shy of 2000, couldn't leave it like that  ... So the total km's on the sled is now 7323 km, and 145 for the day...

I stuck a little reminder note to the back of the new cluster, to remind me what mileage I had done on the old one when it got changed ....

Changed my carbides when I got home, and also put on the new belt (which had stayed on the workbench 'cause it was too cold out to swap it before leaving, that's Murphy's law kicking in).  I Doo believe I have warranty on that belt, a Gates from work ... gonna pull out the receipt and grab me up a freebie.  Also have a gallon of Doo mineral oil that's still unopened, which isn't needed anymore as the bologne slicer is gone.  Gonna swap that for a gallon of Synthetic at the same time as the belt.

Had a great BBQ on the briquette grill, striploins and 'taters ... cold one to wash it down.  Life is good.

Sounds like a great day, Denis. Nice to enjoy a ride after 3 weeks of stupid cold. We almost expected to see you in Kap doing the rally...lol. First place prize money would almost make the trip pay for itself.

Looks like you had a great day Denis. I think you had a monopoly on the sun. Never saw it here.

The work camp, are those blasting mats in the 1 pic?

The young fellow probably has more fun the the rich kids as you call them. Slower sled means more time riding. I always said the same when I had my 440 after the 583. I might not be the fastest down the lake, but enjoying the ride.

Any idea how many klicks on the belt?

I was wondering the same thing about those mats. Or are they being used as “drags” behind a skidded/dozer for winter road construction?

Glad to see you got out. Too behind on work this weekend to ride, but it was nice to go for a longer walk with the dog and not freeze.

Claire, it might have happened had I gotten in gear earlier. Took my time getting functional this morning. Sore shoulders been bothering me worse lately.

Revrnd & Matt, yes they look like blasting mats. They probably bring everything whether they need it or not.

Revrnd, I'm thinking 3000km on the belt. Time to change the motor mounts.  The young lad sure looked like he was having fun with it !!
