Just booked in Mont Valin for March 26 to April 1st for a week of sled/skiing.  Will anybody here on the forum be there during those dates to meet up for a ride?  Heading there with the wife and she wants a day to herself for pampering at the spa, so I am trying to find some company for a days ride or so..  conditions should be stellar I am hoping!!!!'

Passions for three nights and up the road in the yurts for three nights and may head south for a night or two depending on snow conditions.

Just got back from a week there - great conditions still. Probably better to stay north of the river, its starting to get a bit skinny south - lots or road crossing etc. We managed to squeeze in a trip around Lk St. Jean - think you might be hard pressed to do that now though. Must still be 4-5' I  the mtns.

Safe driving - it's a long haul!

Go see the ice cave which is immediately south of Lac Lamothe. It's a huge cave that is about 1000 meters deep (very large) that they used to diver the water from the lake when they built the dam. Bring  a flashlight - you can drive your snowmobile in half way

Yes went there last year, didn't have a flashlight to explore though.  I will this time!  Also loved riding and jumping up the dam.  Can't wait to go back, such nice scenery!  Not too hard on the eyes.

Sorry for the slight hijack, but does anyone have a good 6 day saddlebag tour recommendation which takes in Mt Valin, Lac St Jean and other interesting features in that wider area? Maybe  launch from around Quebec city? This is not necessarily for this year.

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Around 4” of fresh snow yesterday morning, did a 100km ride before breakfast before anybody was out.  Trails in the north still have 4-5’ of snow,  very thin in the south near the river (almost gone).  Lots of off trail riding here!   Only rolled the sled once so far in the deeps within a few hours of being here on Monday.  Ski hill is amazing as well for spring boarding!   Great place for the last kick of the can.

Coolbane have you been to this area Quebec, maybe you know most of this.

Map below shows the perimeter of the area you might want to cover for a six day trip. Lots of option to cut shorter if want to spend more time around Mt Valin.

Common launch hotels is Hotel Roguemont in St Raymond NW of Quebec City. Have lots of parking and allow you to leave truck there.. If you want fancy place then Four Points by Sheraton is just on N side of Quebec City, lots of people also start from here.

A common trip would be day ride from launch hotel up to LSJ. Day trip around LSJ. A day or 2 riding around Mt Valin then pick a route back to the truck depending how much time you have left.

If you go to quebecrider.com sub forum Saguenay Lac St Jean you get get lots of info and ride reports to get a good idea of all the options.

Thanks for the info Fuse. Will definitely work on trying to get to that part of Quebec next year. The sled is put away now as we go to Australia on Sunday. After 5200 km and 2 awesome days of sledding out of Mattawa last weekend, I have no complaints. Cheers

Still a few weeks left here for sure.  My wife made a comment that she has seen more women riding here than anywhere we have riden before.  Weather has been great, stayed an extra day to snowboard in some of the fresh powder on the mountain.  Hard to compare to these conditions, so we won’t...

Yes this is a trail in the higher elevations about 10min away.  We are staying near the Le Valinouete ski hill.  There were areas east of us that had much more snow than that.   Lots of off trail riding here...
