coolbane
We launched from the railbed at Shelburne. Took the 322 east to Honeywood (rough because not enough snow/base to groom) Then 323 west to Dundalk (much better) Then Conn trail from N of Dundalk toward Mt Forest then N to Durham (all trails in decent shape with good base) North to Berkeley, then small loop around Markdale and down to railline to trailer (all good conditions) In general, very respectable conditions for this early in the season. No mudholes, trail cuts or other nasty surprises on this route. Unfortunately, I notice more roadrunning every year (although even this wasn't a problem today because all roads had good snow cover). Thanks to all the volunteers who help to make this possible. Edited January 2, 2018 by coolbane Add pics

Sledguy74
Left Shelburne this morning on the rail bed B110. Was groomed all the way to Chatsworth, did the B111 west loop and was groomed and decent. Flesherton to Markdale area has the most snow. clubs are making the best from a lean season so far. Well done .

Well done . I had thoughts of doing that run today myself but had some stuff that needed done around the house and decided to hold off on a ride until next week. Glad conditions were good for you. I dont imagine it will be in that condition by noon tomorrow. Feb 1 tomorrow and District 9 still trying to scratch some trails into rideable condition. Another crappy season for the south. Baylaker
Good to know, and thanks for sharing! We’ll be riding some of these areas next week after we get more snow. 5-10cm by Sunday. It will definitely help.
Sledguy74
I figured tomorrow will destroy the trails with the warmer temp and traffic saw around 25 sleds today Edited February 1, 2020 by Sledguy74
Candubrain
I rode this area Thursday and Friday, between the lack of snow and mild weather the trails were still respectable, and thank you to the club volunteers that made it so. I can't remember the trail number but the section NW of Durham has a mud hole that I got stuck in, apparently "Give Her" is the preferred method of crossing mud holes over slow and cautious....lol
wrightonalan
I rode these trails on sat and they were still not bad .A little thin in some areas but still ridable .Felt pretty good to finally put some km on .With a little snow this week should make a big difference . Diceman
we rode Saturday and Sunday...Sunday was not very good other than rail bed...tried to run over to Walters Falls but had to turn around...little snow in bush and lots of mud water ...so heade back towards Markdale then turned off towards Durham....MISTAKE!!!! tons on mud holes, water and mogels...fields were ok and old unmaintained rds but bush trails were brutal...saw a guy try to go through a huge and deep water, mud hole and hit a tree....tried to post a pic but would not load...you know its bad when you looked forward to seeing the sign that said follow road to trail..lol. Baylaker
Try cropping the picture just a little bit. I find it works most times
Diceman
Hard to tell by pics but theres a 1 1/2 ft drop at both ends and the side....just terrible....and over a foot deep...if you look really close in the 2nd pic you can see the ski mark coming from the left where the guy hit the tree... Rode through that hole today along with several smaller ones. I'm not sure why that section is even open. The club has always kept it closed until they get enough snow to fill the ruts. As Diceman said, its very easy to detour around as all it does is cut a corner of a road section and the club has been doing that for several years now. It used to be a nice little section in there until ATV's found it in the summer. Trails around Durham were brutal today. They haven't groomed since Sundays trail wrecking. Markdale had groomed all its trails last night and were in good shape (at least the railbed and the west side). The section of trail down to Mount Forest showing limited is very thin. Baylaker
Thanks for the report @Blackstar! i think you would be fine running the rail line right now, after the 10-15cm this week things will start getting better forsure. Still need more than that though. We actually just finished staking a small section today. Stakes all went in the ground easy. I don’t think there’s any frost in the ground right now to be honest. I drove some stakes in my backyard yesterday. There was no frost at all. Feb 3 and no frost? It's a crazy winter but its seems like that all we've gotten the last 5 years or so. 15 minutes ago, TURBO DOO said: Was contemplating the area for the weekend, but after riding the NCDN, i think i will wait till we head back north. With a groom, a bit more snow that may come Thursday and some colder temps, the Durham trails will improve. I wouldn't expect "Far North" type conditions but they will be decent for a ride Saturday. Well, Saturday morning at least. I'm tempted to try a ride around Arthur on Thursday. Probably a few hazards out there but likely not many people riding them as you can't go anywhere. What I seen from the road today looked good.
