slomo
Travelled Saturday to Iroquois / Morrisburg region (former district 1) as noticed trails were open (yellow) - lots of traffic on highway 401 heading east, a huge stretch of accidents just west of Napanee (two vehicles upside down in ditch in two separate incidents) but got to an early check in at the Iroquois Motel which is offering a special sledder's rate of $60 per night, (sled like Ned Nickerson for the weekend !) and got a few afternoon kilometers in. Trails conditions ranged from darn excellent to pretty scratchy depending on terrain - definitely more snow needed in places - but very little sled traffic. Posting a couple of pictures while I wait for things to warm up today and likely won't be bothering to take too many more pictures due to the cold. For those who might be initially confused avec moi with the new Interactive Trail Map of the region where most of the trails are labelled A104.... .....if you zoom in a bit, the correct (I think) trail numbers appear..... As mentioned above, stayed at the Iroquois Motel - (613) 652-4176 - no web site - and here is my review from 2014 - some info is outdated but you can get the general idea - good basic place - For those of you with a little more money or requiring luxury accomodation the McIntosh Inn is trail side in Morrisburg: http://www.mcintoshcountryinn.com/ (big sledding supporter) The former district 1 has a new web site for info and excellent trail loop suggestions: UPPER CANADA SNOWMOBILE REGIONhttp://ucsr.ca/ My thanks to the Riverside Club and the others on which I have not yet ridden for providing trails this early. Going to be plugging in the electric jacket today that's for sure.

manotickmike
Having just got back to sledding after a LONG hiatus, I have never seen the trails down that way, I don't think they opened since I've been back. I will definitely be down that way this year!
Techdenis007
Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Tried zooming into the destination signs page, looking for my SIL's area, couldn't find it. I think she's a wee bit further East of you (Embrun). Enjoy the trails down there, they don't happen often.
slomo
Been outside this morning - 27, truck starts okay despite not being plugged in, (plug ins available) and enjoying a new sledding breakfast developed a few weeks ago in anticipation of this sledding season - Breakfast Schnitzel - replace the usual bread crumbs with Corn Flakes crumbs and a herb and spices set featuring nutmeg and cinnamon. Not bad - needs a bit of maple syrup. Some pictures from touring around yesterday - heated jacket liner came in real handy. Figured camera was easier to use and stayed warmer in pants pocket as opposed to jacket pocket so did get some nice momentos: Snow on fields in good shape Hard to groom areas in the forests were thin in places and had some wear - better than no trail at all.... Running along the St. Lawrence River or at least part of it....lots of wind from the north west.... And back into the woods and (thankfully!) out of the wind... Happy New Year! If you need any help regarding trail info, our District Office is located in The MacIntosh Inn, suite 229. Use the east entrance at the top of the stairs. Look for John Boals. 21 hours ago, Denis007 said: Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Tried zooming into the destination signs page, looking for my SIL's area, couldn't find it. As for our season, we have opened before New Years in 3 of the last 7 years and would generally have 10-12 weeks riding (except for the last 3) contrary to your not often remark. First - Reference this post from September 2015 -" It's Getting Your Food Ready for Snowmobiling Week! " http://ontarioconditions.com/forums/index.php?/topic/14932-its-getting-your-food-ready-for-snowmobiling-week-recipe/&tab=comments#comment-194129 Follow the recipe keeping in mind your eventual goal is to create a combined bacon, (use pork cutlets) eggs, and pancake tasty breakfast food - easily frozen and quickly microwaved saving the time and aggravation experienced in early morning restaurants when you'd really like to get out on the trails early...... -Substitute Kellog Corn Flake crumbs for bread crumbs in the recipe. (disclosure - I did not receive any compensation, discounts, or other freebees for the use of Kellog which is a registered trade mark of the Kellog cereal company - kind of like 'BRP' or 'Triton' in other articles you'll see around) - In your flour dish add several tablespoons of cinnamon - to sort of 'stain' the white flour (although whole wheat flour is more healthy) with a couple of teaspoons of nutmeg. Double the eggs in your egg/cream mix - and the piece de resistance - a very very extremely light coating of molasses on the pork pieces (pounded to about the thickness of peameal bacon) You could also subsitute Tony Roma's Carolina Honeys Barbeque sauce for the molasses. (disclosure - I did not receive any compensation, discounts, or other freebees for the use of 'Tony Roma's' which is a registered trade mark of a restaurant chain) Again, keep the coating verrrry thin - this should go on prior to dipping the pork pieces in the flour, egg, or corn flake crumb bowls. -butter in your frying oil is essential. I use Lactantia butter (disclosure - I did not receive any compensation, discounts, or other freebees for the use of 'Lactantia' which is a registered trade mark of a dairy company) -plate and serve after a slight cooling with the authentic Quebec maple syrup of your choice.
