Techdenis007 Posted March 26, 2017 Share Posted March 26, 2017 Got organized yesterday and loaded up for today, planning to knock the break-in % down a bit on the new TnT .... planning to ride some logging roads between Mooseland and Hornepayne. The bush didn't dissappoint.... Driving down the highway it was apparent that sledding was all but done, the A trail along the highway was real thin, lots of standing water in low lying areas, and lots of bare spots on tops of hills. REAL nasty. Got to East Elgie Road where we hunt birds, got set up and ready, started along down the road. It's well-travelled, as lots of fisherman are out trying for trout in the nearby stocked lakes. Rode around for a bit, the bulk of the roads were untouched. Very hard surface, very crusty, but great 'cause you could go anywhere ! Little creek flowing here, not something I'd cross, banks kinda steep ... Lots of little critter tracks ... squirrels, bunnies, a kitty cat (the furry kind) Pit stop on one of the lakes, small lake with a steep incline ... Doris26 almost had a heart attack once climbing back up it on foot .... we don't walk down there anymore .... It's about 30° uphill, the pic doesn't do it justice .... Little camp/camper in one of the bush roads ... usually a bird or 2 in this little road ... Beautiful hilly roads, pretty fun on the sled ... Ventured along a narrow road to the South, crossing a coupla more roads, got to this road, adjacent to Nagagamisis Provincial Park ... trying to find a route down onto the lake... got close, but not close enough.... Found some big critter tracks too .... Time for a little pit stop for some sammiges and a sip of coffee .... this all fits in the trunk bag (tight though with the hard sided cooler ...) After that stretch I headed back and went North of the starting point, this is Big Skunk lake, one of the little camping sites on the shore, there are 2 different access roads, this is the Southernmost one .... Forgot my skates .... This is the landing at Timberdoodle lodge (yes it's spelled that way) .... The lodge, and its decorated entrance ..... The other campsite on Big Skunk .... Lucky me to find some snow for the scratchers to kick up, it was pretty dry everywhere else .... Drove out towards the highway, explored part of this little clearcut along the 631, visible top right .... Crossed the highway nearby and meandered the bush roads towards the A trail, found it, right where it belongs ... Matt17, there's a coupla bumps along there if you have a minute to fix em up .... Blasted along that stretch for a little bit, then started heading back as the rain/freezing rain was starting to poke thru ... the closer I got to the truck, the more it got threatening .... made it in time as it was still drizzling but starting to get heavier. A few final mileage pics and a selfie, and boogied on home, anxious to share this with you all ..... Mileage for the year at a bit over 3100 km, 163 km for the day, 500 on the new sled (and it's still got 45% break-in left ..... ) Probably the single most epic day of sledding I've had yet, simply for the variety of trails/roads I got to ride on ... and probably the easiest off-trail riding that short-track sled will ever see in its lifetime too !!! I need to get information on the ski wheels you have I am thinking of getting myself and the crew some of them wheels they will come in handy. And the groomed trail was like concrete ... could just barely see where the skis and track were touching from time to time ... Too bad there was no real snow on the lakes. I would have really loved running them a bit more. I stayed to the shorelines where there was some wind-blown snow, and some spots there wasn't any at all... pretty freaky when the arse end slides around with no warning .... I'll make a point of running the local chain of lakes more and checking out the local cottages. I'm not a huge fan of lake riding, but with a capable sled, I might not mind so much ... That is how I bent the handlebars and will need to replace the windshield mount for next year. I will see what I can do about those bumps on the A trail next time I am out. I had thought about messaging and trying to meet up with you but was worried about how hard the trails would be even with scratchers it would have been more abuse than I wanted on the track. It looks really good and may tempt me to upgrade to a Ski-Doo when I retire old faithful. Your pic of the 'sammiges and coffee' brought me back to my childhood with dad and Grampa in the fall bush cutting birch and jack pine for the winter burning season. Grampa didn't wear his watch in the bush but my dad said you could set yours to 'noon' by watching when he would pull out his thermos and sandwiches. Techdenis007 Posted March 27, 2017 Author Share Posted March 27, 2017 Thanks Andre, I like that it has the more "traditional" look with the yellow, whereas all the stand-up models are always some oddball colours ... usually Doo coloring comes by following surfer and skateboarder colours out on the Left coast ... true story. Sure rides nice, seating position is wicked comfy, and it's fast as hell ... but surprisingly awesome on gas. Never expected it to be this good, supposedly better once it's off break-in. I had one pop back up to the "parked" position on the rail a few times, and it never showed on the temp gauge. The snow/ice pellets thrown into the tunnel were plenty enough for cooling and lube, no issues. No rush on those bumps, they can wait a month or 2 ...
