Gaspe question

coolbane

Recommended Posts

A bunch of us are doing the Gaspe loop starting on Sunday and I was looking for some info:

1 . Given the warm-up around here, does anyone have Gaspe trail conditions updates from the last few days?

2. I previously saw a reference on here, which I can't find now, for a Que link similar to the ITG. Can someone direct me?

3. Any suggestions for 'lesser known' Points of Interest on or near the main Gaspe loop are appreciated.

Thanks for any info.

We just got back Saturday night from a 5 day ride in Gaspe. We started in Riviere Du Loup on Monday Feb.20th and rode back into Riviere Du Loup on Friday Feb.24th.

here is some point form info:

- More sleds than we have ever seen in Gaspe (this was our 6th trip there) Trailers parked everywhere.  Lots of Americans/ Ontario and Quebec sleds. Trails were bumpier than on past trips. Better later in the week.

-We stayed in the north (Went as far around as Gaspe) and central part (Murdockville/LaCache) but were told by a tour operator that it is the best snow conditions in years on the south side.

- They got 4.5 feet of snow in Murdochville on Feb. 15/16. In the mountains to the north they were still bulldozing without the drags on the 24th but were gaining on getting things in shape. We got rain going back into Matane on the 23rd. It froze that night and we had a great ride back to RDL on the 24th. Road crossings were bare as were gas station lots and motel lots.

-Rode 1540 km. in 5 days and got everywhere we planned to get.

-Make sure you have rooms reserved as all the places we stayed were full.

- The following link has the most up to date conditions for Gaspe. Updated every day.    http://quebectrails.com/?page_id=74

-Take time in the mountains on the north side to stop at the lookouts and take in the views.

-Gas where you see gas or where it isn't a long way into town off the trail. Sometimes up to 6 km.off trail 5 into the gas stations.

- If you get a chance eat and stay if possible at Hotel Grand Vallee in Grand Vallee. It was the best food we had on our trip.

Hope you have a great trip Coolbane!

We are pulling into RDL on  Sat, start our ride Sunday counterclockwise.

Conditions are good, little dry in towns but snow is coming today and tomorrow.

Have some friends there now, getting updates.

Where is your group starting from?

Sounds like we will cross paths at some point.

Wow! Just checked the link   http://quebectrails.com/?page_id=74. Conditions in Gaspe especially on the north side are closed or risky. Looks like more heavy snowfall might be some of the issue.

We did the same loop, direction and timing as you so I'm sure we crossed paths a few times. We were a group of 11 (hard to miss with the one loud guy we had, LOL) although 3 of us broke off seperately for 3 days to make the group more manageable.

Covered 1200 miles over 6 days. 10 out of 11 sleds made it back to RDLoop under their own power (one Yami quit in Matane).  Awesome trails and scenery all the way around with lots of base still left.

I think it should be good to ride for many more weeks if the weather co-operates.

Was a guy named Russ with you? You guys the group who dropped beer in Matane at dinner (loud guy). I have a feeling this was your gang. Russ was a nice guy who I chatted with quite a bit.

Met many people doing the same loop, had a great trip. Tons of snow to the east

We did the Gaspie Bay last week and used the iMotoneige17 app quit a bit. Found it very useful and easy to use. Shows all the trails, when trails were groomed, restaurants, gas stations, hotels mileage calculator weather alerts and lots of other stuff.

Well worth the $3.99. Imao

We're you part of the break away group with Russ. ? First ran into him having pops at the big cross on the overcast day before mont st.pierre.

Seen you posting for years, run into your group riding over the years but never met

Yes, I was part of the 3 man group and was joking with you at the lookout about how to get a tour gig.

When we got down to the motel in St Pierre to discover all the room bookings for our 11 guys had been cancelled, we were theorizing that you guys had bumped us, LOL. It turned out the be a classic language misunderstanding: our organized called there a week earlier to cancel 1 room but they instead cancelled all the rooms!!

But, are you this retentive? :-) (We will do the Gaspe again, but only the top half and then back thru the Chic Choc mountains - likely in 2019; or if Ontario weather repeats like this winter, maybe 2018.)

Just checked the Gaspe trail conditions on http://quebectrails.com/?page_id=74  The complete Gaspe trail system is now showing the best trail conditions that it has shown for the majority of the winter.
