Weekend Drive

I know the title doesn't look sledding related but give me a sec to explain.

Went to Kingston this weekend (not for the hip) and did some touring on the way down and way back.

My route down was 17 to 41 then to 401, blah, blah, blah.

I have no idea what district or club area I was in (mainly 41) but would love to try some sledding int he area this winter (if my back lets me, wallet as well)

Next is there any trail in the hwy 32 area, my cousin lives on gananoque lake and was wondering what the closes trails where, might be good for a ride some weekend.

the trip back was up 62, again same question as the trip down 41.

any insight or ideas welcome.

You are on the current boundaries of D1 (Kingston-Napanee Hwy 41) and D3 (Belleville Hwy 62). The Lennox & Addington Club is scheduled to join the amalgamated D2/3. Contact the Lennox & Addinton Club if you want to ride out of the Kingston/Napanee area (Hwy 41). There are staging areas at the Flying J (Hwy 41) or from their club house in Sydenham just north of Kingston. The Tweed club should be able to help with recommendations for D3. It's a pretty varied terrain comprised of bush trail and farmland. Not a ton of elevation change until you get to either the Mazinaw Lake area or the Calabogie area. As far as timing I would recommend mid January to end of February for best riding conditions generally. Hope this helps.

Here's some info to keep you busy.....

District 1 page of various loops to be done in the area:

http://www.district1ofsc.ca/trailloops.htm

Accomodations page for district 1 - some have websites, others don't - google is your friend:

http://www.district1ofsc.ca/tourism.htm

My own experience around southern district 1 so you can see trails - nice and flat, good for your back - you generally have to go east of Kingston a bit for better snow:

http://ontarioconditions.com/forums/index.php?/topic/12046-district-1-iroquois-iroquois-motel/

The MacIntosh Inn in Morrisburg is more upscale and owned by a solid sledding supporter - trail right into parking lot. Have not stayed here myself although if wife was along, would probably:

In the same general area to which you referred - Perth - a couple of reports from awhile ago:

And some accomodation info:

And to the north around Vars area - one year, Sledjunk and then I,  enjoyed some early season sledding at or slightly before Cochrane trails opened up.

Motel right on trail:

Interestingly enough, if you watch that restaurant review show "You Gotta Eat Here", quite a few of the restaurants are in this district and trail accessible.

Well, that review of the past was fun....

Go to the OFSC interactive guide and pull up the Bon Echo Loop. Ride out of Bancroft. This is snowmobile country and east of 62 sees much less traffic than the trails west of 62 (not a factor through the week, but a definite concern on weekends). Once you get south of Hwy 7 there is some nice trails, but snow is much less reliable. The area around Hwy 41 is great riding, but services can be few and far between. This is why I recommend the tour loop to start. You can also run east to Calabogie and back which is great riding (access roads, hydro lines and bush trails). If coming through the week run loops from Bancroft. North to Barry's Bay and back is a great loop. West to Wilberforce, Haliburton, and Whitney back is also great riding. Have fun!!!

Great info. Have staged from Bancroft in the past, but never thought of it as a multi-day base. Thanks.

Bancroft is a great multi-day base. Ride the Bon Echo loop one day and and Hastings Highlands the next. 2 300+km days...

Another great loop which isn't listed is a trip around Rice Lake. Did that 2 years ago for the first time, was nice because I only had to trailer 5 minute up the road. But it's got rail beds, farmer's feild, hyrdo lines, lots of hills and twists and turns..

Hwy 62 goes thru D2. The clubs you'd be travelling on would be Centre Hastings in the Madoc/Eldorado area & Old Hastings from Bannockburn north to Bancroft.
