slomo
Dropped into the Newfoundland Snowmobile organization in Deer Lake, picked up a trail map, (needs an update from website) and generally got a few ideas as to what's available in the province - mostly in the western and central areas. http://nlsf.org/ If you don't have the time or inclination to drive east, you might consider flying to Deer Lake airport and renting from these guys: http://www.robclarkemotorsports.com/ They rent deep snow machines and you can get guided tours or sled on your own. There are some very nifty accomodations in the area geared to sledders as well - generally in the Stephenville to Deer Lake up to the National park and over to central Newfoundland. East of that the snow is iffy. Here's a few places in no particular geographic order: http://www.marblemountain.com/ http://jackladder.ca/ http://www.frontiercottages.com/ http://www.dreamcatcherlodge.ca/index.html https://www.facebook.com/Taylors-Brook-Convenience-Accommodations-656493394459112/ http://dhoonlodge.ca/contact.html There are quite a few more accomodations, but these I have ascertained as being on or easily accessble to trail. Here is a link to the Atlantic Canada sledding magazine: http://www.sledworthy.com/ On the trail subject, Newfoundland has an abandoned railway line that crosses most of the province with a few breaks. http://www.trailway.ca/index.php Renting an ATV is the area of Springdale from Rob Clarke Motor Sports and you get into some very interesting territory with few other ATV's to bother you. Currently here - motel reminds me of those in Canada's north: http://www.burntberrymotel.com/ And you haven't lived until you've stayed in Howley, Nfld. - right on the trail winter and summer! http://www.howleynewfoundland.com/services.html http://www.howleynewfoundland.com/ Got to say, as someone who hates the heat and whose dream is to retire to Prince Rupert, B.C. for part of the year (most overcast days in the year) this is one of the few times I have been happy not to be at my camp. Parry Sound: Springdale, Nfld.
