Hi all

I am excited to start enjoying the natural winter beauty of Halibiurton/Algonquin Highland this year. We cottage all winter up on Long Lake / Miskwabi Lake area, and so far it looks like its going to a good year. I only have one sled, so am hoping to meet others in my area to hit the trails with, as going out solo always seems a bit risky to me. I am new to sledding but enjoy getting out in the winter months instead of staying couped up inside. Family Doc here.

Welcome

the Long Lake/Miskwabi Lake are two of my favourite trails, you will enjoy them for sure. Too bad I won't be sledding in Ontario this year, but there is always next year!

Welcome, drpaul. I agree with your comment about the riskiness of solo sledding. This site is a great place to find folks for sledding, and to share sledding information.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you can find people here to ride with. I echo your sentiment about riding solo. If I do go out solo it's on our local club trails, middle of the day and not too far off the beaten path. I also leave my route with someone at home and tell them when I expect to be back. Fortunately the trails in our area all seem to have cell phone coverage so I make sure it's fully charged when I set out.

The best part about riding with someone else is if you do get stuck you have someone to laugh at you for a while and then when that is over reluctantly help you out. Then they get to tell the story of you getting stuck to all of your friends.

Welcome to the forum... lots of people here that are in your area or not far from there. I tend to ride the area bounded approximately by Horseshoe Valley, Elmvale, Wasaga Beach, Midland, Parry Sound, Gravenhurst and Orillia and use Port Severn as my starting point.

Checking in, good to know there are many from the Midhurst & surrounding area. Disappointed with conditions over the holidays, being cautious, hopefully the trails open thru next week.

Hey everyone

Name is Paul I am 32 live in milton - but use to have a cottage ( dads actually )  on gull lake just north of Kilcoo Camp by a 1/2km big cottage with red roof maybe its still there.  Anyway My dad 75 now grew up there on the weekends his whole live and i was lucky enough to be there until i was 8 or so. At one point he had the fasted boat on the lake he said. It was a 1986 viper hydrostream.  then he sold the boat and the cottage it and moved to a house in mississauga.

He had 2 1980 Blizzards ( 1 red i think that was the fast one and 1 yellow. ) Anyway I went on small trips around the lake every weekend. I spoke to him and he said back then snowmobiling in minden and area was a big thing.

anyway so thats my back ground with Minden and growing up with my dads toys,  - funny enough he was actually a waterskii instructor for kilcoo camp when he was younger too.

So I just bought my first used skidoo today 2011 Polaris shift iq 550n  ( it only has 2000km so i thought it should be pretty reliable. ) I also worked a guy down and managed to get it for $3700 not too bad. My wife is excited seeing as I got it with a 2 up. So hopefully she enjoys the whole sled experience . she keeps hinting for the new Polaris evo

Love minden ( I took my wife to the hotel off the river " something swan " for a weekend last winter and it was great . Love the area, and brings back so many memories

Thanks

Paul

Welcome to OC. We cottaged on the south end of Kushog until '73. I remember well seeing the Camp Kilcoo entrance on 35 driving up on Fridays. Only snowmobiled once from the cottage in '70 or '71. Not much in the way of trails & the cottage wasn't winterized (brrrrrrr). Did most of our riding from my grandmother's in Apsley.
