We are starting our trip this year from the sault ste marie and heading east towards Temiscaming

Then we are going into Quebec for 3 days then coming out wherever we can come back out of ,New Liskeard,???Kirkland Lake ???was looking do not think we can re-enter Ontario from Kirkland Lake ????

Then we are heading towards Cochrane then back down thru Halfway Haven.

Our problem on our planning stages is the start of our trip we do not know if 2 days of riding will get us to Temiscaming from the SOO ????? or should we take 3 Days of Riding

Where to stay our first night that would be a halfway point to Temiscaming ????  Hotel ??????

We have been to Massey Ontario before with AC+YA and headed north towards shining Tree, so we are not familiar with the trails in that area .

So any help will be greatly appreciated

we are planning on leaving the Soo on February 17 on our Tour.

Thanks

How long does it usually take you to get to Sudbury from the Soo?

We left just east of the Soo in the morning around 9:00 and it took my Son and I a full day to get to Espanola. We did blow a belt (1hr) hailing ass across one of the lakes if I remember correctly and I did get lost (1.5 hrs) just north west of Espanola. We called it a day 1 hour after dark. It's slower, tighter trails and my goal was Sudbury. (Didn't make it) Day 2 was a better day as we made it from Espanola to 3 Bears. Trail signs were lacking around Espanola. You might have better luck though.

Last time I looked you can't head east because the trails are red in a few spots, one is near Spanish. Not sure what is going on there. It Is a bad year for trails around north bay area to say new liskard. Not sure if you can count on those trails being in good shape.

I'm no pro but I would estimate 3 days from the Soo to Temiscaming. I'm not saying you can't start day break to sun down, balls to the wall, no problems to deal with and maybe make it. Really I just don't think it's realistic unless things line up just right. Just sayin??

Can't help with the getting there but coming back through Kirkland Lake (A110Q) will open up this weekend as the Larder Lake is being staked tomorrow.  On the QC side the 11kms from Kanasuta ski hill over to the Ontario/Quebec border (trail 93) still shows closed on the FCMQ website.

The Ontario side is open at New Liskeard but again FCMQ doesn't show status of the Notre-Dame-du-Nord link trail yet.

Thanks for the info I thought I seen somewhere that the Quebec side was not going to open this year .

Hopefully bI by the time we get there things will open up

The trail from New Liskeard to Quebec is open - you have to use the L190 and then ride down the river - the slush has to settle down for the A107Q to open.  I was there about 2 hours ago and the Quebec trail is groomed and the big welcome banner is flying over the trail.  The riding around New Liskeard is shaping up nicely and is probably at about 85% quality now and is getting better.  Let's just hope that the weather lasts after all the work all the clubs are doing to get open with no frost in the ground.

Espanola is about 1/2 way from Sault to Temiscaming and if you have no issues, it shouldn't be tough to make Espanola from Sault in a day. Sudbury to Temiscaming is pretty good quick trail for the most part.

Recommend The Tem Rose in Temiscaming. Trail to within 2 blocks and usually snow to ride on pretty well to the door. Good Restaurant/Bar and they have nice motel rooms across the street. They sell Quebec permits as well. Fuel at the gas station just after crossing the river from Ontario. After you fuel go back across the road in front of the gas station and follow the trail(sled marks) to the left. Go up a short way and thru the man made tunnel. Follow old railbed and watch down to the left for the old railway station. Go down around it and out to the main Street. Tem Rose is directly across the street.

Pinewood Motel (north side of road) is where I stayed and it was a decent stay. There is also a gas station right across the street (south side of road) that was very convenient. Small feeder trail bringing you in from the south goes right to both if I remember correctly.

Came up the trail from Manitoulin to this place in Espanola two years ago - double check trail access, but should still be good.

Just noticed on the Temiscaming clubs' website that the trail to Temiscaming on the east side of the Big Jocko river isn't groomed yet as of Feb7 because there isn't enough frost in the ground for the groomer. It says something about "2016 temporary trail". Not sure what that means.

Zrtcat, post the rest of your schedule, I will be with a small group starting the 20th either starting in north bay or new liskeard headed north. Maybe we will cross paths somewhere??

We crossed A110Q on Friday, then Larder Lake to the boarder. The Quebec side is in deed not open until the ski hill. We and some others got through. I don't really recommend doing this. It would have been nicer to run down the snow covered highway.

People were coming across from Liskeard and A102Q.
