Would not surprise me if there was a good under lying story when it comes out with regards to the closure.

I have some good friends in Bear Lake .i will investigate

Maybe it got sled business in the winter when trails were open but what would draw you there any other time

I think a lot of the places around there only get business with the sledders in the winter.  Two winters ago we were renting a cottage in Kearney and dropped into Sud's on Main to watch the hockey game because the satellite in the cottage was down.  We were the only ones in there, so started chatting with the waitress and she said that the winter time is their busiest time all year.  I would think the Sprucedale should get some more traffic in the summer as the ATV trails use the same trails as the sled trails up there. I think the biggest problem with the Sprucedale is the history of the place.

I'm pretty sure there have been a lot of less than stellar reviews about the place in recent years. I guess it caught up to them.

Every community should have a 'gathering' place. This pub, love it or leave it, had a role in the community. Sad to see it closed.

I agree with you Steve. My best friend just bought Bill Cudney's place and he said the Sprucedale Hotel had the hydro fail inspection and needs upgrading so the place was

closed.No updated info yet.

Aluminum wiring maybe? I know they are cracking down on that. Must be the insurance company, since hydro doesn't regulate rules after the meter.

My local connection tells me it sold and a couple guys from the LBGT community bought it, he's less then a reliable source so who knows. Could be an interesting spot if it is open this winter lol

Failed inspection upon close by a building inspector. That makes sense.

Yup Fire Marshall shut them down due to violations in the kitchen is what my Bear Lake sources provided.

That sucks many good times there

Googled  Sprucedale Hotel and the real estate listing says it was built in 1899..

That would be about right. The name didn't connect, but I do remember a new hotel going up in that area around then.

According to our local Fire Prevention Officer, he initiated the shut down after routine inspection.  No mention of a sale.  He would not elaborate, but it would appear the violations were significant.  Immediate shut down was ordered, no grace period to repair and comply.

You have a great memory - - you must have been quite young at the time.

Any news if they will get it open for the season? I'm guessing not
