lagoon city/brechin hotel open again for winter (apparently)

Noticed a sign in Brechin advertising the Knights Inn, Lagoon City, so looked it up. The former Harbour Inn which closed for the winter, has joined the Knights Inn group and appears it will be open for the winter. Last year, we had a couple of the members on this forum who were familiar with the owners or future owners of this establishment. Maybe they could put a bug in the ears of the current owners that maybe they should mention snowmobiling as one of the activities on their web site which might boost winter clientele.

Web site is at:

http://www.knightsinn.com/hotels/ontario/brechin/knights-inn-brechin-lagoon-city/hotel-overview?partner_id=&hotel_id=48484&campaign_code=&propId=KG48484&checkout_date=01%2F18%2F2015&brand_id=KG&children=0&corporate_id=&ratePlan=BAR&teens=0&affiliate_id=&iata=&rate_code=&adults=1&checkin_date=01%2F16%2F2015&rooms=1

According to my scouting last fall, the trail is accessible at the north eastern part of Lagoon City, which is sort of a community of cottages/condos connected by series of man made canals to Lake Simcoe.

If the canals are frozen, you can get there easily, otherwise you could be travelling on roads or paths.

About the only place to stay in this area, except for the hotels by Casino Rama (one is on the trail) or the Peninsula Inn in Pefferlaw which involves some finessing on a river south stopping for a quick meal at Sledjunk's place and then trail access at a nearby park.

On a related thing, the website for the hotel above notes that their hot tub is broken for the foreseeable future - noticed a lot of places last year closing down the pools and hot tubs for the winter as a cut expenses measure - might want to phone ahead before you book at places if you want to make sure the water toys are open.

Thanks OF7 for letting me know about this post and thanks for bringing up this topic Slomo.  Unfortunately I don't have any information to share at this time but I will find out more and get back to you.  I went to the Knights Inn for breakfast this morning but it was busy and I couldn't get a table. I hope this is a good sign and business is doing well so they will be able to stay open this winter.  If they do stay open then they need to get involved with the ODSC and do some map and trail advertising.  They will also need to figure out a parking area for trucks and trailers.  I'll write again when I have more information.

Hi Slomo.  Yes you are correct. The Knights Inn, Lagoon City will be open this winter. Apparently they will be advertising with the OFSC magazine and offering special snowmobiler accommodation rates.  I will keep updating as I learn more.

Visit <link removed> for live footage of the lagoon.  My Dad's 80 year old friend Doug runs the website.  The site will let you see live weather conditions for the area.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.  I'm glad that you found Ontario Conditions.  There are lots of great people here and I'm sure you will meet some of them this season.  Thank you for buying advertising space on the OFCA trail map.  Have you contacted the OFSC and asked them if you can buy advertising space on the trail advertising board?  I think this will be a good way of bringing people over to your restaurant. Have you thought of posting signs on the west side of laguna parkway that will direct riders to your hotel?  Snowmobile riders transport their snowmobiles in large trailers with large tow vehicles.  I'm not sure if your parking lot is large enough to fit 10 trucks and trailers. Have you thought about a secondary parking area for trucks and trailers to park?  I really hope that you have a great season and I will definitely be eating at your restaurant. Hopefully my friends from pefferlaw, uxbridge, orillia, guthrie (and beyond) will join me for breaky. :-)

The parking lot is quite big, could easily fit 10+ trucks and trailers. Let it snow!!!
