The short and narrow track might make it a bit tough to take off any hard packed trail. Now the DVD and screen would be really nice when the scenery got boring.

It seems the number of people wanting to be trainers is dropping in our area as well. I only got certified to fill in while the one trainer went on holidays. I go out now to help with the paperwork and keep my certification current but it's a bit of overkill to have 4 trainers for one course lol. When they were doing 45 kids per course it was a lot of licences to write out.

I got pulled in to the driver training world last year when one of the guys my wife trains with went on holidays and they needed help. The team would generally train 45 kids per class with 3 classes held every fall in November & December the last number of years. The first class this year only had 16 kids and the second class scheduled for this Saturday was cancelled due to only 3 kids being registered. The last class in December only has about 16 kids registered at this point in time. It seems like the online course may be killing the in class training. Anybody else seeing their numbers drop like this?

The groomer was over the Baden trails the other day. Seen a lot of sled tracks coming/going from the New Dundee area at the hwy 7 underpass last night. The fields around my house show a lot of bare dirt. Most of the snow was blown to the fence lines. Unless you have corn stubble or alfalfa to hold it the fields aren't great.

As I stated they may not be charged with impaired but that does make them safe to drive.

I agree with you about rights. Who's rights take priority? The riders out there riding according to the laws of the land or those riding under the influence? The question of them being legally impaired under today's definition is kind of irrelevant considering each person reacts to alcohol and drugs differently. While the person may not be legally impaired they may not be in a position to operate a vehicle capable of going from zero to stupid fast in no time flat. With our rights in this country come responsibilities. It is up to us, as citizens, to follow the laws of the land or accept the penalties (without snivelling). If there weren't issues with impaired driving the police wouldn't be asking people to blow. The recent legalization of weed brings another angle to this issue. Wether being asked to blow into a breathalyzer constitutes a denial of our rights remains for the courts to decide.

When you consider how many empty beer cans you see left in the clubhouses/warm-up shacks or garbage pails on the trail there seems to be more drinking and riding than there needs to be. I don't know if these riders are impaired but you can kill yourself easy enough when you are sober. I welcome police attempting to get the alcohol off the snow. I can wait until I'm home before having my bourbon.

There are different formulas of Loctite. Some are easier to dis-assemble than others. You can use red but only use a drop. If you hose the bolt you are toast. Places like Fastenal, Brafsaco and other bolt and nut supply places usually carry a selection of Loctite products.

The New Hamburg-Baden trails were just opened this morning and I believe just the southern portion to allow riders to get from the New Dundee trails heading west. The club is still cleaning up ice slabs from the river flooding some parts of the trail. The trail north to Wellesley isn't safe to open yet. Not sure about snow conditions.

I believe the club must decommision the trail before it can be closed permanently. As long as there are any club/OFSC signage out there it is still considered an OFSC trail. 138km is a lot of trail to inspect and decommission. Maybe the club can generate some interest in volunteers coming out to help if the trail is still on the books. It would be nice if things could change once some of the dust settles on all the changes going on.

I'm sure you will see guys make the attempt to run this section of trail. Might want to take extra fuel and a chainsaw if they do.

The club has already met their obligations. They have posted the trail as closed on the guide. To ask volunteers to chase after people over and above this is an unreasonable request. Riders have been given the information and it is up to them to research further of the possibilities of the trail opening this winter. If they plan a trip they need to make sure any trails they plan on using are open.
