  1. After having to cancel Quebec trip over Christmas and again in March (was to do new Liskeard - Chibougamau loop this week) with my 16 year old son (as he could legally ride in Quebec this year) - wasn’t going to let a March break pass without something. we had previously cancelled a trip out to Revelstoke over family day weekend as they had a major thaw - so we decide to rebook for Wednesday and Thursday this week. best single day of sledding I’ve ever had. Think I’ve even improved from last year!

  3. Met up with friends and introduced to new friends. Driving time from Toronto to Mont Valin approx 12 hours. Accommodation was at Destination Mont Valin. Had the pleasure to stay one night in the chalet and the remaining nights in the loft. Gas pumps at our doorstep 😀 Lunch & Dinner Relais Onatchiway Auberge 31 La Chapelle (closes early on Sunday) Gas (91 octane) at all these locations We also ventured out to the ice cave, that's a must! 😜 Temperature was -20 C and sunny on the first day of riding. Crisp and clear riding conditions. Second day Temps were around -12 C with overcast and sunny periods and some flurries. Third day Temps fluctuated from -14 C to -7 C overcast. Covered the entire riding area In 3 days with our group of 8 riding on Polaris and Ski Doo One word - AWESOME

  4. Well my buddy wanted to ride his rebuilt Boost so last minute we decided to head to Poplar Point Camp by Elk lake and try place out. Great cabins. And super owners. We went out with owner for a ride Friday afternoon and ran out of snow to north East. So we turned around and rode South into the higher elevations. Fun ride on logging roads. Yes some thinner spots. Yes I hit some rocks. Today my buddy and I were out for a few hour run. And heading out again after lunch. I know it’s not for everyone but I already own the sled and extra carbides. Plus spare skis so WTF.

  7. Few trees down w all that wind. What snow is left is thin..very icy in the bush. Good fishing weather..not good for much else. I’m at 2400 km this year and and 2700 last year. No complaints from me. Next year will be better..I’m an optimist 😎

  8. You guys can all thank me for this snow. If this car stayed in storage it would be +15c and sunny.

  12. I'm waiting for my gravel driveway to freeze so I can get my sleds out of my shop. Hopefully that's Tuesday morning by the looks of the forecast. I was invited to Mont Valin for this weekend but passed. My heads in a different place now and I still have about 80% of my winter projects to get to yet. I got to 2 weeks before the wife gets home to inspect.

  16. Made the drive to KL this morning. All the way to south of Temagami was light to heavy rain. plus 9 south of Temagami. North of Temagami temp started dropping. Roads were okay to NL. By NL it was -14 and freezing rain. After NL to 112 cutoff we drove on white ice with heavy heavy winds. Trailer was pushed and wagged sideways and pulled truck a few times. 60kph drive from NL to Kirkland. Cutoff at 112 into KL was whiteouts. probably 6” of snow on road in KL.

  17. Skied there on Friday with the family, conditions were great, good temps and fresh snow all day. We didn’t see any brown patches, bonus day out for us, nice to have one more “winter” day. My little guy took to skiing well this season, no issues making it down the bunny hill without falling. He’ll be 3 in June. My wife’s in for some competition next season.

  21. I do it the other way. I let eveyrone else eat the depreciation. I keep money ready and scour kijiji daily. I lost money on one sled and made on all the others. Im ahead a lot right now on all my purchases Only one i didnt care what i was doing was with my Mach. I wanted that sled regardless of dollars.

  22. Yep, and for that other reason, the sport is slowly dieing from a rider to a volunteer standpoint. Agreed, stupid money spent, that makes non-current left over that much more appealing vs. latest MY sled if you are so inclined to buy....but you are still taking a hit on selling your old sled for the "new one", if you sell that is. There will always be a cost for having fun, each person has a different threshold for that given their life situation, stupid part of spending the money is not being able to enjoy it......I think most in the sport today will be okay spending the $$, if it can be enjoyed - that was a big hurtle this year no doubt, which as you say, leads to considering other options instead to spend your money on. 2025 season will be better for riding option, it has to be! Maybe not for sled manufactures/dealers though.....

  23. I rode my sons 550 Sport a little the day we got out. It is light, has decent jam, and if you are a good rider, riding Muskoka trails, ( not Quebec and up north), it will keep up with anyone. what I loved about it most was no temp gauge and scratchers non sense. Gas, oil, and go. You can still have a lot of fun w/o spending 25k plus on a stupid snowmobile. i have never not had a sled, 25+ is the end for me.

  24. We noticed the same thing driving home today. Still a bunch of sled trailers headed north. My buddy kept yelling out the window, "Go Home, Its Done." .....lol

  28. We rode down from Kirkland Lake to Elk Lake on the A for lunch today. Riding in the morning, everything was fine. From the junction of A and A110Q to the junction A and L162 has been groomed and is in good condition with a few thin spot where it crosses rough terrain. Below L162 there has been no grooming since before the melt down. It’s about a 40 km stretch from there to Elk Lake. The upper half saw a lot more snow than the lower half. The A trail runs on the River now on the north side of town (not on land like it shows on the OFSC map). The hill climb off the river was ice mud and rock this afternoon. That lower section was turning grey coming back this afternoon with small bare sections. The snow was soft and the trails were still decent but the traffic was taking a toll. The trails around Kirkland Lake are patchy, mostly still snow but slushy with bare spots. We were done by 330. Still warm and sunny out. My buddy and I were pretty surprised at how fast the trails were deteriorating in the afternoon. We are heading home in the morning. I don’t think there is a good ride near here tomorrow afternoon but there are plenty of people in Cochrane who are riding back to Kirkland Lake tomorrow.

  31. I'm at 1700 kms give or take right now. A couple more days this weekend should put me well over 2000. I don't think I've ridden this much in 5-6 years, could be more.

  35. Time to part with my well outfitted trail sled that is thoroughly maintained and has been completely dependable. Retired, original owner, sled stored in heated garage. Injectors have been cleaned, valves adjusted, shocks rebuilt, new drive axle, top gear. Skid frame pulled every season and bearings and bushings replaced, nothing left unchecked. Starts great any temperature. Don’t be worried about the mileage (33,000kms), this engine is bulletproof, and you will see all the suspension is completely restored to like new condition. Includes the following: Ice Attack Pre-Studded 137" Track Sport Mirrors HID Headlights Med and Tall Windshields Knee Pads Tunnel Stiffeners Engine Oil Block Heater Hand Muffs Heavy Duty Rear Bumper Trailer Hitch Rear Rack Rear Rack Bag Saddle Bags Tunnel Flares Visor Plugin BOP High Heat Thumb Lever Sled can be stored free near Pembroke until next season $6,700 obo.

  36. I ain't doing that math this season, no way. Seeing the posts on Facebook of people assuming there will be a discounted permit next year.....lol I've spent more on carbides than permits this winter. The permit is the cheap part.

  37. My chum had a Jeep pick-up in high skewl. Straight 6 with Desert Dogs. Those tires are so loud, that he lost his muffler on the way to skewl one day, and didn't know it 'till he got there. Found it on the way home. .

  38. Agreed. My sled is washed, polished, fogged and in my trailer for the summer. It will take more than 154kms of yellow trails for me to drive 10hrs north at this point. I am in dirt bike mode at this point as well.

  39. I saw new 2023 Indy 850s for $13995 + freight at the dealer in Timmins a few weeks ago. Why buy a used sled when you can get brand new for that price?

  40. Like my daughter and SIL - they love sledding, but Winter is Hockey Time, so the sleds sit. Hockey thru the March break. They also like dirt biking, but Spring and Summer hockey start up by the end of April just as the trails open. Grandson is going to be a well traveled, super experienced beer league player in 5 or 6 years. Not sure that life style is worth it for the lad.

  42. It would depend on the sled I was buying. I'm only buying 4 strokes at this point so I wouldn't care whether it was 1 year or 4. If I was buying a boosted 2-stroke, I'd probably want all the warranty I could get.

  43. I’m a four stroke guy. Cat has nothing but a $30k hyper sled, Polaris didn’t put a turbo on the S4 and 90hp just isn’t enough, Yamaha is exiting the game with a $22k viper, so that leaves skidoo. looking at a leftover 24MY renegade adrenaline 900 turbo at some point this year. We’ll see what deals pop up. $17,800+++ ain’t too bad for a 130hp sled for a 25MY. I remember paying $14,600+++ for my 2018 viper brand new. I certainly don’t need a $25-$30k sled, but some people have money to burn and that’s ok too. I’ve never been a skidoo guy, but I feel they offer the best value for the 130hp 4 stroke class, not to mention all the accessories available.

  44. yes, but there is very little coming in behind those people - and even people with financial freedom - they didn't get there making stupid decisions with their money, and 30k on a sled in Ontario would fall into that category all day long - rich or not - it's just stupid lol. People will start finding other things to do with their time and money if things don't get better

  45. My buddies still want to go to Quebec this weekend. I suggested we still go somewhere on a guys weekend but leave the sleds at home.

  47. Ya, sledding crowd is older around here, and really overall in general. What ya ride I don’t think is a factor most think of when riding, other than perhaps a sled not looked after causing potential break down, but even new sleds leave you stranded. Same as pace, a slower reasonable rider is not that far behind when you stop at intersections to wait for all to catch up, plus is it really about the race to get to your destination or about the ride it takes to get there, at whatever pace and enjoying that. It seems things change more so due to weather, conditions or peoples life that changes, that cause a change in plans. Personality conflicts might be a bigger factor for some.
